Your 3 yr old will love any toy you get them. At that age they have no idea what they have or don't have, and love everything they get because they're too young to know the difference. Keep the toy at your place and anything else you might get for him.
If I remember your ex was a bit younger than you. Let's hope she continues to grow, mature and at some point becomes more calm and civil when it comes to you. It'll make parenting so much easier for both of you.
