How reliable are WRXs?

I’m thinking of buying a WRX but don’t know if it’s worth the hassle. I don’t know how to drive stick shift. Should I just get an accord instead? My civic is pretty reliable only 50k miles on it so far.

Have you never operated a motorbike? Driving a stick is very similar aside from the extra wheels.

New FA24 is actually a pretty good engine, probably one the cheapest cars to make big power nowadays (400ish)

I like WRX only cause theyre still fun to drive, the new ones dont look good in white or light colors due to the fenders but theyre mechanically sound cars.

The only problem with the WRX is the boy racer image you get when you drive one. Really depends on if your a big car guy or want to be cause you might be better off in an accord to get from Point A to B

As long as you take care of it and don't abuse or neglect it, sure it will most likely be reliable. As reliable as a civic/accord/camry/corrola... not quite as much but it's a lot more car than those. The opposed 4 isn't a bad engine, and it has it's perks, but there are also drawbacks to it. Once you add turbochargers, you add a complete new pandora's box of things that can go wrong. Just as much, you have a small but high output engine which is going to be a smaller engine under more pressure and heat.

I've had a 2015 WRX since new. It has 242k miles on it. Here's what's broken so far:

Catalytic convertor burned out - pipe replaced under warrantee
Intake tube popped off causing car to die on road - shop reinstalled with a new hose clamp. It turns out this is a common thing people replace with aftermarket tubes.
Oil pan gasket died and was replaced
O2 sensor died. 2nd O2 sensor is probably also dead. Have yet to replace.
Quads for the broads

I know this is going to sound as if I am talking $hit... but...


You and I have very... VERY different definitions of "BIG POWER"


But back to Opie... As with just about anything these days it will 100% depend on how well you choose to maintain it and how you choose to drive it. I cant really speak of the new WRX's but the few older models from various generations are fun little cars but the second you start modding them its just when (not if) you are going to skeet the head gasket out and completely destroy your transmission... lolz. But those AWD launches are hard to resist

Yea, that image isnt going away. Thanks to the blue WRX from the 2000s that every ricer had back then. Those were the days though.
