Any misters ever quit smoking? Bought my last pack of cigarettes today

Done with it.

I'll be 49 next month my one and only child just turned 3.

I got to make it at least tk see him get to college and join a fraternity.

I didn't start smoking till I was 36/37. Nasty habit and an expensive one.

If you were able to quit how did you accomplish it?

I haven't smoked a cig in about 5 months. However, I did start vaping every day.

I never really got into cigarettes tried it a couple times, and didn't like it at all.

So can't help you there in this thread, but why do you think your son has to join a fraternity when he's in college?

Is just something my father always preached to me. I didn't listen. I want my son to have a goof life track.

Yes. I smoked for probably 5 or 6 years. Was fully addicted pack a day smoker with MANY failed attempts to quit.

I finally did succeed.

Its HARD. Very very HARD. But just know that the withdrawal symptoms are short. Once you get past the first week youre home free.

That week is hell on earth but once you beat it, it becomes extremely easy. Just be strong mentally and do not break.

I smoked but luckily couldn't get badly addicted. Everyday from 16-22yo but i slowly stopped liking it. And was not hard to stop..... my Mom smoked 35 years. She did hipmtism and it worked (1994) she never smoked again. She's 85 now (srs) stopped when she was 50yo

Try hipmtism?

Smoked for years and loved every minute of it.

What i didnt like was being a slave to them. Flew to Puerto Rico seom San Diego and realized I was a serious slave to them.

Decided to just say screw it and quit cold turkey. Just refused to pick another one up and never did again.

It really only sort of sucked for the first 3 days. they say thats the actual chemical addiction period. After that its just a habit to break.

When I wanted one I just did something to keep me busy. of course i was pretty busy doing that for the first few days but the jonesing gradually go less and less as i got a handle on it.

The only way to really do it is to not look to anyone for support or any of that stupid crap. just do it and be a man about it.

I started smoking in my teens. Everybody I know did it, so I did too.

When I finally quit in my mid forties, I was at the point where I hated being a slave to a habit. So, I committed to it 100% and set a date certain.

I knew I had to avoid my friends as most of them smoked. Fortunately, the company I worked for shut down over the Xmas holidays and I was able to essentially lock myself in my apt and fight the demon of nicotine.

It worked and a magical thing happened at the six month mark. I started to detest the smell of cigs and everything about them.

Good luck to you boyo and stay strong.

Cold turkey.

What it will boil down to is how badly you want to quit. If you really want to quit, you will. If you don't truly want to, you will probably end up failing.

What made you start in your mid-30's?

I smoked 2 packs a day from 11 until 40. I quit a couple of times in that span. At 40 I took advantage of a plan from the state and used Welbutrin SR to help lessen the intensity of the cravings and then quit. I'm now 64 and haven't had a cigarette in 24 years.

Good luck man, I hope you succeed, will be one of the best things you ever do if you succeed. Not even going to preach on the health risks which are only risks but the smell and the lung and circulation issues as long as being a slave to them are real things and you will feel so much better to be free of that. Stay strong there is a lot to be excited about on the side of the chittiness you will need to go through.

Dudes tobacco is the only regret I ever had w regret to substance use. It’s so hard to quit, harder than anything else

And? I quit chewing like a year ago

But I switched to snus

Been preferring camel because it tastes better and unlike skoal aren’t participants in the ped0 peter Sandusky war on poor people or healthcare

Camel has never illegally drugged me whilst just trying to go about my day

I get like the 15 tins and 2 of them last me a week just less than 5 a day

But they don’t fucj up your mouth

When I got my meds taken away as is now well known but was known to my doctors despite best attempts of the dea crime syndicate to lie about everything

I have panic disorder and now between the lack of self care, doubling down from stress because no meds and ****ty living conditions I need a tooth or two replaced

I also vape

I was originally on Orion and ebdesign but switched to vaperesso because it’s refillable and cheaper

The agenda is once I get my meds back to quit all together or try

But I have to wait until the Sandusky war on healthcare is over and his war on poor people

Until then? I tried chewing when I couldn’t buy snus because I don’t have a car

Can’t stand it anymore

I never smoked cigs but I was on cigars(black and milds) until I was coughing too much and switched to vapes

The dea is so despicably evil

Smoked from age 14 to age 32 and only reason I stopped was because my girl was preggo. I switched to vaping which made it super easy. Just had to get used to the completely different throat/lung sensation but I got used to it pretty fast.

I can say with 100% certainty that vaping to get off cigs is a terrible idea. I was smoking like a pack per every 6-7 days by that point so basically 3 cigs per day. Now that I've been vaping for damn near 5 years I abuse it way more than I did with cigs. Probably hit it like 150-200x throughout the day. Such a dumb ghey habit but it's so easy to do it just about anywhere that I don't have any deterrents.

Just go cold turkey and be done with it.

Good luck OP. Not a smoker, never touched it, but I can understand. I don't think it's just the nicotine, but being a smoker is kind of a lifestyle, even part of your personality, your normal behavior, apart of everything you do. So no doubt you are having to adjust your whole lifestyle while going through an actual chemical addiction withdrawal. That can't be easy.

I think I annoyed myself into quitting. Like, I was already really wanting to quit mentally, but couldn’t keep it up, so I started listening to a bunch of quitting podcasts, reading quitting forums, read that Alan Carr book, and all of it was a bunch of self righteous motivational speaker bull**** and I got so fed up with inundating myself with that sort of material that I was like “Jesus Christ fine I quit” just so I didn’t have to keep doing that crap

Well, duh. By why succumb to smoking when you're like 37 after avoiding it for all of that time before that? Most people who don't start by 20 never start at all, and you started when you were knocking on the door of 40?

Recommend taking that last pack and 1 by 1 ripping each cigarette to shredded snd tossing them.

If you can't do this, you haven't quit.

I smoke socially only.

I switched to vape. Bought a mod. Got custom flavors ordered online. Loving it. I think it's a lot healthier too. If you are addicted to the aspect of smoking.
You are your thoughts. Life is perception, thoughts are perception, perception is reality ergo thoughts are reality, I think therefore I am.
