As her illness progressed, she became bed ridden, the song continued. She eventually became blind and the song continued. My aunt would lay in bed with her and hold her hand and gently move her hand to the music.
Eventually her illness took her hearing as well, she was 24. She was terrified as she could no longer hear or see. My aunt would lay with her and play the song while holding her hands and it would calm her down.
My cousin did not make it to 25. My aunt was obviously destroyed by this, as was my father (my aunt was his twin sister and they barely survived World War 2 together as very young children….they shared any piece of food or scrap of food they could find). My aunt kept on for 35 more years, as she also had a younger daughter to look after.
Fast for ward to covid, my aunt and uncle got it. My cousin called to get them taken to the hospital, my aunt refused to go. My uncle was taken as he was almost unresponsive, but my aunt was beyond firm in her refusal. My cousin stayed behind to look after her. At that point my aunt stopped talking and just put “Sailing” on repeat in her room.
My cousin came in to check on her in the morning, she had passed with a picture of my cousin and a smile on her face. Sailing was still playing.
A mothers love is immeasurable.
RIP to my cousin. RIP with your daughter to my aunt.
I have never turned this song off when it comes on. I always listen and cry….sometimes happy cry, sometimes sad cry. This song is now part of who I am as a person. It’s amazing how connected I still feel to both of them because of this song.
Kimm4, reps to you for life my dear.

It’s also so weird seeing Sebastian in tv shows like Gilmore Girls and Trailer Park Boys.
