Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman have been awarded the Nobel prize in medicine for their work on messenger RNA technology, which enabled the development of the first vaccines against COVID-19.

mRNA vaccines work by delivering into the body genetic instructions for building proteins that are present in the virus being immunized against. That spurs cells to create those proteins, which the body then recognizes as foreign and attacks; training the immune system and creating protection against the actual virus.

In the early 1990s, Karikó, from Hungary, was working at the University of Pennsylvania looking at how mRNA could be used in medicine. She was joined in her research by U.S. colleague Weissman, an immunologist specializing in dendritic cells, which are responsible for the body's immune response during vaccination.

Together, the scientists discovered how to alter mRNA so that it wasn't immediately detected by the body's immune system and could deliver its payload to the target cells. Further work by the pair improved the efficiency of mRNA, so that it stimulated more protein production.

"Through their discoveries that base modifications both reduced inflammatory responses and increased protein production, Karikó and Weissman had eliminated critical obstacles on the way to clinical applications of mRNA," said the Nobel Assembly.

As well as laying the groundwork for mRNA vaccines, Karikó was employed from 2013 to 2022 at vaccine developer BioNTech, which, together with Pfizer, produced the first COVID-19 vaccine approved in the EU.

Pharma companies are now developing mRNA vaccines and therapies for a swathe of different diseases including flu, tuberculosis, HIV, malaria, Lyme disease, Zika and various types of cancer.

The award comes with a cash prize of 11 million Swedish krona (€950,000). In 1951, Max Theiler won the prize for his work helping discover the vaccine against yellow fever.
So why do they deserve it over someone like Robert Malone? Isn't this the lady they edited wikipedia to, claiming she pioneered this techonology, not Robert Malone when he started speaking out against the covid 19 shots?

Pfizer patented mRNA technology in 1990. they knew about SARS covid back then - and they knew vaccines via this messenger delivery method to the immune system didn't work as the virus mutated. surprise surprise.

but i guess waiting 30 years to profit 100+ billion was worth the wait for those researching about it.

Do you think picking them to win was a purely genuine choice because they were the best scientists, or to further justify what was done during the last 2 or so years? Do you think there's no thought of optics or biases from the side of the Nobel Prize committee?

What the results of their research were used for is irrelevant.

People who aren't aware of the extent of the work these scientists did should really not comment before they look it up.

Don't confuse the actual science with what it was morphed into by big pharma.
It seems to me like the timing of this has everything to do with big pharma and its optics, it's really hard to ignore its historical context and pretend this has zero to do with what's been going on over the last 2 or 3 years.

I'm sincerely curious what your thoughts are. I've been following your posts throughout covid, and I value your insight, but I just can't help but feel like the timing of this was political and favorable for big pharmaceutical companies given what just happened.

Kariko and Weissman get the Nobel, not for inventing mRNA vaccines (because I did that) but for adding the psuedouridine that allowed unlimited spike toxins to be manufactured in what could have been a safe and effective vaccine platform, if safely developed. Good to know.

Pfizer has been campaigning for this since 2020 - at first, they even claimed (as did Kariko) that she invented the mRNA vaccine platform technology. Pfizer donates heavily to the Karolinska Institutet, which awards the Nobel. Science has been hijacked again by big pharma.

Actually it does….because the “vaccines” are made using mRNA technology and they fail horribly.


Why would they award them based on what may be possible in the future? So far they’ve only need used to pump out sh!tty products and rake in billions in profits. And I’m skeptical of future use to treat cancers simply based on the fact that in its current state the industry involved with treating cancer is horribly lucrative, and these companies have NEVER been known to prioritize health over profit. In fact they prioritize profit over health every single time. So unless there’s a way they can charge more for a cancer mRNA treatment than they do for current treatments they’ll never see widespread use. So again….what did they receive the award for?



Oh yeah, for playing a key role in the biggest sale of snake oil in the history of mankind.

I don't understand why he would get the covid shot and not speak out against everything that's been going on during covid given his scientific knowledge and everything that had happened.

In what application does it work now? I've read about theories where it could potentially work, or help, but I'm unaware of its success yet. Usually proponents of mRNA technologies cite the covid 19 shots.
