Idk bro,

Bird overall is definitely more of a legend and it's a dumb comment from Rodman but can't take away anything from D.Rod. He was a defensive monster that not many can compare to.

I don't necessarily think Rodman is wrong here.

Bird primarily plays inside the 3. (goes against modern strategy.)
He was half a step slow for the 80s game and is probably a full step slow for todays game. If you have played you know you can guard the half step, but once you are a full step behind you are in trouble.
Hand check is currently illegal and that is a problem.

Bird is one of the greatest of the 80s sure. Just don't see it now.

As for Rodman. His skillset is unique, but he is still a HOFer.

Bird was way too good to not make it he'd be like a Luka Doncic and he'd for sure adapt to shoot more in today's NBA which would probably extend his career

Bird would adapt his game to the modern 3. His game was even a bit revolutionary at the time because he attempted more 3s than most of the league, although a far cry from what most players attempt at present.

I don't think being a step slow is that big of a deal. Alot of players in the league can't defend. Bird made up his lack of athleticism with his craftiness and IQ. Also keep in mind he played half of his career with a bad back. I think he could feast with the number of illegal screens and good spacing. He has the size and strength to get off a shot.


I think he would be a worse version of Luka Doncic or Jokic, BUT one thing you couldn't deny from Bird was how physically and mentally tough the guy is. Would literally tell opposing players where he was going to shoot and make buzzbeaters and actually do it.

I know all the bird stories and have no doubt how physically and mentally tough he is, but when you get too slow it is game over.

Depends how well he can play with limited contact. However, he was one of the best defenders of all time and one of the best rebounders of all time. He is one of the only players that could have a great game with 2 points.
