Reminds me a bit of a guy from Brazil I knew. He got into an argument with 3 guys over a parking spot. His car had been boxed in by the 3 guys and he couldn't leave. I guess the argument wasn't that heated but one of the 3 guys pulled out a gun and shot the guy dead. He had a young son. the shooter if I remember right had been in trouble with the law often up north but hadn't spent much time in jail. He came to Florida and killed someone.

He went to Yale - he probably viewed himself as “enlightened.” Which would explain why he spent time and effort talking to the jogger.

Even though deep down his common sense suppressed survival skills were screaming at him to just keep walking, his enlightened side told him “this man is just a man like you and would have been an astronaut if not for racist society, so engage with him just as you would any other human.”
