The best analogy I can give you is that it's like the parent / child dynamic. As in, the parent will observe a problem or strange behaviour from the child, but the child itself often hasn't a clue. If the parents bring it up to the child, the child will often still not have a clue nor awareness of what the parent is talking about.

I actually have a good example from my own life. I had a lot of learning difficulties when growing up, and one day I ended up in the office of a speech therapist who I ended up having to see regularly. But I myself had no clue why I was there for the longest time.
