This is a sentiment A LOT of people agree with including me. Most of those people are thinking we gave 75 billion in aid to Ukraine.

This isn't the case. We gave a certain amount of cash (I don't know the number), new military equipment, old military equipment, and expiring military equipment. The bulk of that "75 billion" (not worth anything close to that) was old and expiring military equipment gathering dust in storage.

Differentiating that is important. I suspect most anti-Ukraine aid people don't have problems giving the old and expiring stuff, but do have a problem with the cash and new.

I don't agree with this implication. Javelin missiles are not "used" items that depreciate over time, per se. We're definitely sending nice stuff over, and we're definitely just buying more of it to replace the inventory.

They had to be removed from service at 7.9 Years.... *Extended to 22.6 years in 2015* the ones being sent are the oldest ones.

It always seems like we dont want to send something then in the future we agree to send it eventually. Is this some sort of disinformation game or what? First it was Patriot missile system, then it was Himars..and the Abrams...now its the long range missiles. And also, we are only sending 30 tanks...that is nothing considering how big the front line is.

They also want to give as much as they can, but not enough so Russia decides nukes are on the table.

That platform was created in 98 and is still being produced. I suspect the MISSLES are expiring unless they were depleted in Iraq/Afghanistan and the trucks are still good. (Though I really think it is more the Ukraine attacking Russia in Russia that is why they aren't being given.

The deposed former speaker has made clear he plans to stay at least through the speakership election that begins next week before ending his House career, these people said, in order to help the party steady itself after a seismic shakeup.

In a closed-door meeting with his conference, hours after eight House Republicans united with Democrats to strip him of the gavel, the Californian signaled that he wanted to return home.

“I’m going to spend time with my family,” he said, though the remarks were largely drowned out by lawmakers’ shouting, according to Republicans familiar with the meeting.

“I might have been given a bad break, but I’m still the luckiest man alive,” he told them.

At the same time, some Republicans are reviving his name as a speaker candidate, even as it remains unclear whether he’d accept it.

They argue no one else could get the 218 Republican votes needed to be speaker, they argue, as Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Majority Leader Steve Scalise enter next week’s race as frontrunners that still might not be able to get over the top.

The “only workable outcome is to restore Kevin McCarthy as Speaker under party rules that respect and enforce the right of the majority party to elect him,” Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) said in a statement on Thursday. “This depends entirely on several of the dissidents to disenthrall themselves from their decision and to repair the damage before it is too late. I appeal to them to act while there is still time.”

McCarthy is still expected to be active in GOP matters, whether he’s in the House or out.

“I’ll do anything I can to help almost all of you. Don’t worry, I’ve raised a helluva lot of money in the last hour,” he told his members during the Tuesday closed-door conference meeting, when he made clear he would not seek the gavel again.

The Democrats know that if McCarthy get nominated again, and they know he's going to get the votes, they will exploit him even more than the first time.

It is. It's third in line to the President of the United States, and it's all "grunt" work. Of all of the positions, it very well could be more powerful than being the president. Nancy Pelosi taught us that. She is actually the one who created the law where speakers could be removed, because she was thinking of the long game and removing republican speakers. The Democrats understand that the Republicans win the house by a narrower margin every election.

Edit; Keep in mind, Pelosi lead the charge to impeach Trump without an investigation, impeachment inquiry, dictates who is on committees…it’s extremely powerful.

Speaking of Pelosi...just heard this tonight, not sure if it's been mentioned in the thread. I guess the motion to vacate rule had been in place for 218 years until Nancy got rid of it in 2019. That's probably why she was untouchable and was exactly what McCarthy wanted for himself. Changing rules any time the house feels like it is a big reason we are so screwed up...
