It's a balancing act. If Israel was really serious about getting rid of Hamas, they would have done so long ago. They will strike at Hamas and hit their military infrastructure hard but they cannot push them too hard because the entire Arab world will go bananas and that affects the rest of the world especially countries with large Muslim populations and of course oil prices.
