Why does PS+ suck so much ass compared to gamepass?

When it comes to new games, I'm PS all day. Older games though? I can usually find what I'm looking for on gamepass. Certain games that would cost money on PS are already on Gamepass. GP Ultimate, and you have the whole catalogue. PS plus you gotta get into deep tiers just to play the classics.

I feel like PS could kill it online if they tried to match prices and amount of games offered through GP.

What do y'all think? Am I tripping, and PS plus is actually better?

2 trillion dollar company can afford to provide a bigger subscription service at a loss compared to 100 billion dollar company. More breaking news @11.

Daddy Microsoft funded Gamepass just as they funded the ABK acquisition....Things Xbox division by itself couldn't possibly do. Being infinitely rich is your answer.

I dont follow gaming news that much but it makes sense that MS would make gamepass so much of a better deal to attempt to get customers to "switch over" from playstation. They are competing from the same pool of customers. Most people that want or would get a gaming console already have one... so they already have a playstation or xbox. So that means they are mostly competing to poach from each others customer base. Add in backwards compatibility and you got customers "stuck" with the same platform for generations if they want all their old digital games. Not surprised if MS will take a loss in the short term to poach from Sony and once people are committed they can start upping the prices.

Remember PSN on playstation 3 started out as free to play and then quickly turned into a monthly fee as soon as they got enough people used to it.

Nintendo is the only one that comes up with any kind of new ideas. For a while with the Wii they were selling them to old boomers, nursing homes ect that was pretty impressive then found a whole new market. It was also pretty smart to combine the handheld and console market with the switch. I will be interested to see what they come up with Switch 2, if its any smart idea.

The fact that Xbox is funded by microsoft completely escaped me. Makes perfect sense. Microsoft basically prints money compared to Sony.

Probably because Sony's fanatical fanbase doesn't really hold them to any standards.

Hey, it worked for Sony back when they were the big money giant who could bully everyone with acquisitions and exclusive deals. They're just now suddenly crying foul because someone with more money is competing with them.

It is funny how that part of history gets forgotten. How Sony was able to use all that money from the trinkets they made over the years to muscle into the industry.

Sonycels don't want anyone to know about that, but it's basically how the PS brand established it's early success.

Own both systems and subscriptions.

Gamepass is definitely better, in the sense that it has more games and access to older 360 games. That said, there is still quite a bit of shovelware on it and it's true for both systems as well.

However the one difference I think is that people are far more willing to pay for Sony games than they would for Microsoft games. When people buy sony games they know they're getting high production, quality games. Whereas with xbox games, you never know if you're gonna receive a dud or, if anything at all considering how long they take to put out an exclusive.

Like others said, xbox can also afford to take losses on their sub thanks to ms money, so they can just release everything on gamepass. Sony games still have to make sales ... Which probably accounts for why the games end up being marginally better because there's an incentive to sell well. Whereas on gamepass, you know you get paid upfront either way, so why bother putting in the effort.

To summarise:

Xbox: Opens an all you can eat buffet for 5 bucks a head. The food quality is chit tier, just barely edible, but they know they don't need to put out anything higher quality because the price of entry is so low, they will always get the business, even if it's making a loss longterm

Sony: Opens a Michelin star restaurant, new items on the menu are expertly hand crafted and tweaked to perfection before being released to the public, and that comes at a premium. On Sundays they open the buffet, but all the diners know that it's not the same as the set menu. The Sony diners look out the window and see the Xbox diners shovelling slop down their throats and just shake their heads in disgust. They'll never know what high quality tastes like.

Not sure with GP, but PS+ Extra(2nd tier) got enough games for me, that I cant even play 1/4th of it in a year. And I am talking about the big AAA games, indies or AA doesn't even count.

I think these services are good if you are a no-lifer or got other gamers in your house(kids, etc).

....did I take crazy pills or something?

I have both a gamepass ultimate sub and a ps+ premium sub. For all of 2023, gamepass was releasing stinker after stinker. Virtually only indie games, with a small smattering of exceptions. Every two weeks the next gamepass game announcements were met with complaints as its just more & more indie or low-budget stuff, with just Starfield to prop it up.

Meanwhile, PS+ is releasing first-party and third-party AAA games every month.

I'm not a "fanboy" of either, but just objectively speaking, playstation is winning the subscription war

Typical quality vs quantity debate. Hard to say one is clearly better than another, depends on what you are looking for from the service.

This ^ Put a PS5 and a Series X in my living room both with their subscription services and I am probably never even touching GamePass as I wouldn't have enough time to get through the higher quality stuff on PS.

For the most part, when I go through both lists they are more or less similar in terms of shovel ware, exclusive games to either platform and then the common titles found on both.

Either way, I win. I own both consoles and have access to both subs.

"Were"

They'll only be available for a month on the Essential tier. Congrats on getting gamepass's sloppy 430ths though.
