Now, BMI is racist and not diverse

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ender-dei.html

While not the most accurate guide to a persons health or fitness, it was only a matter of time before some woke libtard came along and said it was racist.
A prestigious US medical school reportedly offered a course over the summer that promoted 'alarming' progressive ideals - including several relating to gender, and Diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The course, titled 'Health Equity and Justice,' was held at Missouri's Washington University School of Medicine this past summer - and some of its alleged lessons were laid bare Sunday by Fox News.

The outlet shared a series of PowerPoint slides that seemed to show the class's irregular content - including one that insisted that BMI should stand for 'badly mistaken idea' because it does not take into account 'a person’s gender or ethnicity.'

Another that centers around 'health equity' argues nutrition is inherently racist - due to the fact the white doctor who invented the concept of calorie counting carried out nutrition experiments on aboriginal children in the 1940s.

The lesson then concludes with a series of points marking the 'structural differences between cis and trans individuals', with one insisting that the 'contribution of these structural differences to gender identity [remains] not clear

Bigly educated. Those stupid/ignorant/backwards/etc/etc conservatives are the ones holding back "progress" and scientific advancement such as this.

So as longtime lifters and bodybuilding fans, bmi was always a joke on the site because it never took into consideration **muscle mass**.
it was a life insurance/medical insurance joke of a measurement.
You could be 60 pounds over weight on the chart, be considered obese ,and be a solid 230.
No one should even consider it.

Lol my HR team has been having a "Weight Bias in Heath Care" training series where they teach doctors how to "treat" obese whales.

Obese whales is never a good thing, but do the docs understand the muscle mass conundrum?

Not well. They often use BMI where it is not appropriate (individual level) where actual people can be evaluated.

However, on a population level BMI is pretty legit. We don't have an epidemic of bodybuilders walking around.

It should be also noted that many of the weight issues obese people have lifters also have. (Heart, sleep apnea, blood pressure, joint damage...)

Honestly you have outliers such as bodybuilders, BUT the generalizing of BMI is definitely a strong measurement for health. Most people are fat as fukk and unhealthy, and don't have much muscle. Most bodybuilders would also be a lot healthier if they weren't on many drugs and smaller. They would also still be considered overweight, but not as much as you'd think. If anything there should be two categories for BMI, and that should be measured along with some kind of bloodwork to see heart and other organ health. (Super Ded fkn Srs)

Sure Benny... Any thoughts on the topic of discussion though, and not just BMI in general?

Don't be a retard again. While BMI isn't foolproof the truth is maybe 10% of the population has a high BMI from lots of muscle mass. If we want to be foolproof take BMI and waist circumference. 220 pounds but a 34 inch waist male? You're good, and uncommon. Same weight and 40 inch waist? Not good, very common.

Only a major pro level juicecel is going to be "60lbs over weight on the chart" and "solid".

Inb4 Benny claims he's natty and "solid" while "60 lbs over weight".

I thought i was on ignore frankie boy! LMAO

So while i am not in the medical field, our area has quite a few muscular guys.
And while i have not asked them for measurements( that would be super fkn gay) 10% is extremely low for muscular dudes around here.
Maybe in rural NC, men are not very Alpha or jacked, but we have tons just due to it being metropolitan DC.
So don't be retarded again.... with a narrow scope regarding big men, not specifically bodybuilders but big dudes.
You act like a muscular 200 pounds is some sort or rare accomplishment for long term lifters over 5 years.
170 in high school, 4 years of lifting in college then 5 years in early 20's...not hard.

Umm only 8.9% of American's above 15 lift weights AT ALL. (this is heavily influenced by the HS athletes)
https://www.bls.gov/opub/ted/2016/sp...-americans.htm

Most of those don't know how to lift and end up pretty much exactly where they started.

If you did a quick look I suspect you would struggle to come up with >2% of the population that looks like they lift.

American's are becoming lard asses and it isn't due to a bodybuilding epidemic.

Also, if you're 5'10, and let's say 230lbs of solid muscle, allegedly natural, who's to say that's healthy? Who's to say that's good for the heart?

You ever see some of these individuals like that walk up a flight of stairs?

Allegedly he's 230lbs of rock hard, dense muscle from decades of lifting heavy, and when someone is on a piece of equipment he wants to use, he stares at them until they're intimidated, and flee......

It's actually far less than that, like 1-2% are outliers due to muscle mass.

And of course, it's racist because the obesity rate is far higher in black people, just like it's racist when you quote crime statistics and fatherless households.
