Spiderman is so outrageously big in pop culture right now it's really a cake walk of an ip to use. Not to discredit insomniac who are probably the best in the biz, they would have made a great game with any ip.
Idk to me this just looks like another marvel movie just in video game form. Universally entertaining but I'm a bit burnt out on marvels action comedy formula personally. Esp the pg/pg13 type stuff, at least give me something darker and more violent, like Wolverine.

Starfield started with 0 clout and only expectations, Spiderman is time proven with his popularity in and out of video games. There's a very good reason Sony scrambled to keep that ip when marvel bought everything else back all those years ago. Because it's marvels most popular and lucrative character, by quite a margin too.

Spiderman will beat Starfield because it's a better game, the community has ZERO problems trashing bad Marvel games.

I posted it another thread a few weeks ago, but all of sony's games on pc added together don't even have as high of a player count as any of Bethesdas individual games in 2023. They are really just one and done playthrough games for the most part. Bethesda designs games with much better longevity and of course mods to make the game way more replayable.
They are just not designed with the same things in mind for gamers. Starfield wants you to mod (fix) the game and have an off the rails experience. Spiderman is a very on the rails, cinematic, quick time event filled game.
BTW, I own Spiderman on pc and have played it. Unlike Coal Man I own all the consoles and actually try out many games even if I don't end up liking them.

While it's good for what it is, it's the kind of game I have seen come and go countless times since I've been into gaming. Games like that release to critical acclaim, sell well for a couple years, then everyone moves on with their lives because as you said, it's more or less just a one n done experience. Heck that is essentially what Sony specializes in these days, critically acclaimed epics that you play once and are done with. It's the same way I feel about games like TLOU and God of War, they can be fun and interesting experiences, but after you play them there is no reason to really go back to them as it's just the same exact linear/cinematic experience you had before. This is right and no sonycel will ever admit it.

One day these sonycel clowns are going to realize they hated on one of the most iconic games of this generation simply because it was exclusive to a different plastic box.

Will never understand why people keep bringing up replayability as some massive factor whether it makes a piece of consumable entertainment good or not.
It's stupid and pure cope. You guys do know that you can enjoy something once without having to repeatedly go back to it right?
brb Godfather is one of the best movies ever made, sometimes you rewatch it - but not always and not constantly. Brb editing the movie to delete scenes, or watching it from different points or watching it backwards because muh mods and different experience.
And of course starfield will end up having longer legs and more people playing it in the longer run because of the mod factor. That still doesn't discredit how potentially "amazing" Spiderman 2 still can be as a video game
Both things can be true, they're not mutually exclusive. Just because one game has the ability to live longer via mods doesn't make the other game any less of an experience first time around..... The thought process behind games needing constant replayability is why this industry and sony is making a push to gaas .... To try and appeal to the ADHD braindead multiplayer community who wants to keep playing the same game for years and years.
Also lold that freeburn and jay are both trying to discredit spiderman for some reason, but both of them ended up giving high praise to High on Life ... a crappy cringey single player shooter that had some of the most mid and uninspired gameplay (also like what 10 hours long?)... But then again, High on life was thought to be an exclusive at the time, so go figure.

Saying that Spiderman is successful just because of its name is cope as hell. I mean yes, Spiderman is a huge franchise and name. but a good game will always be a good game. Spiderman has so many games, some of them stinkers and none of them received the same praise from critics or fans compared to Insomniacs Spiderman. Insomniac actually made a game that is probably the best superhero game since Arkham Asylum.
Batman is probably bigger than Spiderman overall as an IP and franchise, but Batman games have been stinkers until Arkham came out
What do both of those games in common? They're actually good games.
^ Coals post on Marvel Avengers is spot on. That game should have been a banger, but square enix has shut it down because of the horrible response. Guardians of the Galaxy (an actual decent game) suffered from Avengers reception fallout ... And these are all games coming in off the Marvel hype.
Suicide squad was mocked back into development.

You Sony dorks talk about that game more than I ever have. Outside of me posting in the threads made about it, the only time I've talked about that game is when sonycels have brought it up, just like you did right now.

Don't think I'd pay full price so good on gamepass finally adding something worthwhile. It's gameplay isn't anything super special but it's funny and looks pretty good too.
