Huge waste of effort to source that crap cheaply from CHYNA.

It is totally worth it to "buy once, cry once" then the product works forever after that.

Yes you pay the price - but always get what you pay for.

Tuesday SoMo Ride.

Thought I fixed the rear hub with the original 36t ratchet. After about 1.5 miles in, blew out on an uphill.

Seriously not liking the DT Swiss 350 hub now. Did some google searches... apparently.. this is a problem on those who lay down the power on the hills.

Got a pic at least. Didn't mean to block whoever was behind me. LOL! Prolly was camera shy anyway.

Sucks... without a bike until Monday or Tuesday. Waiting on parts

Blew out my brothers rear hub. It's done.

The ratchet is stuck in the hub. I placed the 36t in there after the 54t blew out. Problem is the teeth in the hub shell were also damaged. As soon as I pedaled, it started skipping. One side of the ratchet does not interface/mate with the other side because it's stuck too far in. Now I can't pull it out. It literally should just fall out.

So it's done.

My singlespeed. Built a new rear 29" wheel. Waiting on tubeless valve and sealant from Amazon. Double-butted spokes and alloy nipples. The old wheel is good, but the XC tire is done, and I don't have a spare 27.5" tire (other than the 3lb downhill tire, but no way am I riding that on XC trails), and no sealant anyway.

I do have a 26" rigid ss, but nah. I'm spoiled. Road the 26" only when friends wanted to see me ride it on crazy gnar.

Ratchet stuck in there, and damaged already.

New 29" rear wheel, just waiting on valve and sealant. Got a new SS tensioner. Hopefully it works.

Bummer being bikeless. Seems like a good justification to buy two more.

The ring nut can be replaced easy enough, so wouldn't call the hub done just yet unless the shell or axle is damaged too.

The problem with breaking 350's is there isn't many other places to go. Pawl systems are more delicate. An Onyx sprag clutch is great but have their own problems with weight and pedal kick back.

That part of the bike just takes a chit load of abuse, no way around it other than to expect maintenance and maybe change up your riding style to better match that reality.

Hub shell is physically damaged. There's no salvaging it. Even if I was to pull out the ratchet, any new ratchet would just get stuck in the shell.

I'm a Clydesdale (225-lbs) who lifts. I can lay down the power in short sprints. I normally ride SS, and can sprint faster than most riders uphill. Problem is endurance, but that's another story. lol.

I'm way fast downhill.

I also like hucking and being playful on the trails. Hops, jumps, drops, wheelies, endos, etc.

The part of the hub that the star ratchet engages with is replaceable. It threads out. Still, it's been tightened by the same force that broke the ratchet, so it may not come out. But, it's $10 for the part and $75 for a shop with the right tool to give it a shot before rebuilding the wheel.

I'm not the type of madman who would ride single speed LOL, but we're close to the same kind of rider otherwise. I've broken Hope and I9 and all the relabeled Formula and Bitex hubs. DT and Onyx have been the most reliable for me but everything can break.

I usually take a trip out to S Mountain between Christmas and New Years, if I see a big dude sending it on the uphills I'll say hey.

Best hub I've ever used is the cheap Amazon 106 prawl hub. Srs. Literally thousands of miles on SS. Bought a second one just last week to build the 29" rear wheel.

$65 and came with a set (front/rear).

Yah man. If you want to go to Hawes, hit me up. Srs. Will do red mountain rush, sisters loop, stinger (or is it scorpion? I forget, lol).

Only do SoMo with Tuesday night crew. LOL. ngl, Not my fav trail system, but I like the people I ride with more. It's not SS friendly.

Test ride this morning on my SS. New 29" rear wheel and new ss tensioner.

6.5 miles around San Tan Regional park. Performed flawlessly. I really like the full 29er for XC rides. (previous mixed wheel mullet).

No chain skip or jump on the new tensioner. That was my biggest concern.

Gong to do a group ride tonight at SoMo. That place is NOT ss friendly, but oh well.

Some pics.

If your chain is old, and your cog is new, it is much more likely to skip. Everytime you get a new cog/cassette, you must also buy a new chain so they can wear out together.

Took me years to figure this out lmao.

Chain and cog are the same age.

For the tensioner, it's just making sure the pulleys are aligned with the chain line.

As for skipping (besides the one you mentioned) is mixing true single speed cogs(1/8) with 3/32 chains. You can use a 3/32 cog on a 1/8 (ss) chain, but a no go on a 3/32 chain on a ss cog that's meant for 1/8 chains.

The teeth on a cog 3/32 are taller. Teeth on a 1/8 cog are shorter. On a 3/32 chain, it'll skip.

As you said... it's like running a new chain (3/32) on a wore out cog (1/8).

When I take off a drivetrain I NOW zip-tie the chain to the cog in the direction that I ran it on my bike.

I used to just grab a handful of assorted cogs/chains from my bin and slap them on. It was a nightmare LOL.

Rode SoMo on my SS.

I tell you what... I cant believe how much I miss riding my SS.

Chain did jumped off the cog twice bombing downhill. Looked at the chain-line, need to adjust the pulleys a little to the right, just a tad.

If it continues to jump after adjustment, gonna put my rear Shimano Deore derailleur back on. I really like the look of the ss tensioner, but does me no good if it jumps off the cog.

Oh man. Sick of this heat!

Went out to Hawes this morning. Decided to do Maricopa Madness->Scorpion West->Scorpion Alley->Stinger East-Wild Horse to the Sisters Loop, then back through Wild Hourse heading east to the parking lot on Usury.

All was going awesome until I got a puncture on the rear tire at the end of the sisters loop. No plugs or spare tube.

Had to hike it 4 miles back to Usury Pass Rd. to my motorcycle.

Went to NRA pit parking lot, some randos gave me a ride the last 1/2 mile up to Maricopa Parking.

Meet some cool people The strangers who gave me a ride were from Tucson! So we talked a bit. Was fun.

On Stinger East

Anyone have any knowledge of the SELLE ANATOMICA saddles?

I have used a BROOKS B17 in the past, and I liked it, but didn't LOVE it.

My issue is that my left sit bone is maybe 5mm lower than my right sit bone, so the left side takes all the pressure, and my right side always feels perfectly fine.

The slash down the middle of the ANATOMICA makes the left & right but cheeks independently suspended in the leather, giving range freedom from left to right.

As much of a skeptic as I am about gimmicky bull, I think this might actually be the solution to my unique issue.

Are you sure you're not just canting slightly as you pedal? Variation in dorsiflexion at the bottom of the pedal stroke on one side or saddle height would do that. Chuck it in the turbo and video yourself from both sides and behind to rule it out.

Hmmmmm. Whether or not I am doing that, I have ONLY ever had pain on my left side in 13+ years of MTB/road cycling.

Saddle pain isn't a typical issue I have, but I've been doing 150+ miles per week lately so it's a current issue. (Literally logging all miles on my BROMPTON.... Dead fuking SRS)

Dunno much about saddles. I just pick the widest because I'm a big boy. On super long rides, I wear padded shorts and butt butter of some type.

Went out to Hawes today to ride Alps, Red Mountain Rush, Wild Horse, Scorpion, Scorpion Alley, Stinger East, back to Wild Horse, then back to trail head.

RMR is totally rutted out, sandy, loose... pretty much like riding down a Slip'n Slide. Almost slid right off the mountain side at one point, LOL. There's was a small drop at top.. it's gone. Just roll it now, sad.

Broke out my gopro 360. I'll have to edit it and upload it sometime.

All in all, a good ride. Riding on the loose stuff keeps you on your toes, but had to control speed and go slower on some of the turns.

Top of Goat on the way to RMR

So I looked into this a little, and recently I guess my saddle height has increased 1cm or so..... I knocked it back down and hopefully it helps. Actually skipping my ride today because the pain has become the only thing I think about when I'm riding.

Rode 18 miles around San Tan Regional park. Not the most exciting, but it gets in the miles and smiles on dirt and hills. Weather is nice, and should be getting nicer. Honestly, it's still a little warn at 75f. lol.

Rode just a quick 12 miles today before heading down to Tucson. Hopefully get some riding down there on Monday. Maybe hit 50-year, if not... Sweetwater. We'll see.

Anyway, keep the rubber side down, and send it.

Here in Tucson, volunteered to assemble 120 bicycles with Old Pueblo MTB Group for low-income families in Tucson. Had a great time with good friends giving back to the community. I personally met some of the families as we were handing out the free bikes. Greatest was seeing the smiles of the kids and parents.
It was an honor and blessing to help in anyway I could.
God is good.

Rode Tues & Today (Weds).
Tuesday, rode High Ridge for the first time at Hawes. Was an absolute blast. Especially with my Tuesday Night Crew.

Today, rode with my little brother (I fixed his rear wheel with a new hub. Spank's hub). We rode McDowell Mountain Regional Park. We got lost trying to ride new trails. lol. 22.5 miles total.

Just got back from Sedona. Stayed overnight camping.
Rode Slim Shady, HiLine, Templeton, Easy Breezy.. and some others I don't remember. LOL.

Rode Thursday and Friday. Beautiful weather. Near the end though, blew out my rear tensioner. LOL. Had to walk 1.5 miles back to my motorcycle. Luckily, most of it was downhill, so I coasted a lot.

Brought my GoPro, so I'll edit some video later.
In the meantime, here's some pics.

Bottom of Templeton. There's a small river! Awesome fall colors too.

HiLine Trail in Sedona.

Took a slight tumble on HiLine, but nothing serious. Was super fun, so far, my favorite trail there.

Longer 2.3min vid.
