IT miscers who have been sending their resume out lately

So ive been getting a lot of Hits off my resume for basic Desktop Engineer and Help desk Roles and they are offering every where from $28 all the way up to $40 an hour.

I've never seen help desk gigs pay out like this.
Got hired on at $29 an hour back in March for W2.

Im located in the Midwest. Anyone else seen any gigs paying like this in your area?

Our guys are paid about $45/h with two years of experience. And we're still having issues finding people.

Haha. I swear the more I reflect on how one little mistake in judgement in ones life can cause you to be stuck in quick sand it makes me physically ill.

Im pretty much starting over and doing so in the red. Like minus 10. Just getting to where ones head is above water is a struggle. It's achievable and I'll get there but hope everyone takes it from me and knows they are hearing it from someone who has no reason to lie to you or mislead you.

Tomorrow never comes, don't put things off, stay career focused, NEVER EVER take a drug. Prescribed or otherwise and keep your drinking to social outtings only.

Cause you don't even realize you are sinking when it happens untill you are under water.

Oh well.the only good thing that comes at being rock bottom is being provided an opportunity for restructure.

It can. Just depends on what area you dive into

Like anything else though you got to have a passion for it if you want to soak up knowledge and be good at it

IT is funny because most people in IT are down right retarded. If you have even a little bit of common sense you'll shoot right to the top.

Yes but that's not entry level. The IT salaries are entry level or 2 years of experience max. To be making $300k in Finance you need to grind for years or work 100 hour weeks.

No, I meant I.T. supporting the big financial firms, or hedge funds. The hedge funds pay monster cash. If you can support the trading apps and you know wireshark really well, you're basically the most desired out there.

I mean that applies to any field you could support, but that's also not entry level.

Hospitals are good to work for, also schools, great benefits, smaller work loads.

Honestly it doesn't really matter, that first IT job is the hardest to get, after that it's gravy.

I have sent out a few. Not familiar with IT field, I look more for resource management (personnel/finances/logistics/operations/QA, QC/etc). Keep in mind these positions are exempt/salary.

Nothing in the local area would be able to compete with the compensation and opportunity offered by my current position, but I throw out feelers every now and then as while this is somewhat secure, I could lose it pretty easy. Like any job I guess.

I have not noticed any type of increase in compensation for the types of jobs I look for, and that of course is something I look at. My area does not have a lot of opportunity to begin with though so my personal anecdote is probably complete useless. Hope it helps though.

Well I told my brother to get into IT and then got him a 6 figure IT job. So nepotism is the best direction.

Barring that, tell him to get his A+. Certifications aren't really needed, but if you don't have experience or education it can get you in the door. If he's young I would suggest he learn some sort of coding and become a developer, much higher ceiling. If he's older then infrastructure IT is good.

Depends on his bCkground and knowledge of computers

If he is starting out raw

His option are basically

Programing
Network administration (pretty much just becoming fluent in OS's/networking)
Network engineering (Cisco routers and switches etc etc)
Or the hamburger flipping job in the IT world building and repairing PC's.

The money is in programing and engineering . If you know your stuff and earn a ****. You will make good money

Solid advice the A+ while being just a piece of paper is a great way for a novice to become familier with the basics. It looks good on a resume.

But I’m using nothing from degree I feel like I’m wasting my time and getting dumber here cuz my job is easy

Yeah for IT it's worthless. It's an accomplishment you achieved and worked hard for so it has merit on that front but for anyone not already in college. It's best to skip it

What’s CCIEs?

I forgot how to code so I have to re learn again plus I never liked coding I was really bad, only good at the easy front end stuff and theory stuff.

I also like my job atm cuz it’s remote and ez but it doesn’t pay well but my plan is to study coding/cs stuff and eventually apply to cs roles but I honestly could stay here forever too tho. Idc about $ tbh

I actually had an offer for qa engineer but fkin asked too much $ and they rescinded

Although my friends are making 200-300k with the same degree, same school and same grades etc so I can get there too but I just like where I am at even tho I make a lot less

CISCO high end certification

It's extremely difficult and designed to be that way. I forget that statistics of how many actually pass it that take it but that is what makes it so valuable.

That's not a cert you just jump into though. You want a TRACK and you want your certs to compliment each other..

I started with A+ and Network+. Both are excellent as a foundation and both can be used as electives depending on the track you choose.

There is s big demand for cyber security these days as well.

**** stands for Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert, you can get a **** certification for various avenues in I.T., routing and switching, data center, I think they have one for security, maybe one for design, I don't recall. If you're satisfied with the job, no problem, but if you feel like you are falling behind in skills, experience, solving issues, then I'd start job hopping. On the **** note, CCIEs are basically the big D swinging in the room when it comes to certification holders. I'm going to get my CCNA even though I've worked at a level considerably higher than the CCNA opens doors for. I have time off work at the moment, so I'm going to take the exam and try to double dip, if possible, but it's not necessary for me. I'll see where it leads. CCNA by the way is the entry level certification, but computers are the ones reading resumes right now so you want the buzz words and certifications on there to have your resume selected. /dear diary

Yeah the financial sector is basically NYC, you've got Chicago and Miami as well, Philly, but NYC is where the party is at. Lots of firms, including the big / major financial firms here. They will pay out around 200+ easily, but the hedge funds...that's where the real money is at. If you can support traders / hedges, they will throw money at your like it's going out of style, they make so much money they don't give a schit.

As for douche bags in I.T., depends on where you work / who you work with and the corporate culture. I remember telling upper management off at a job back in the day and they were stunned, did it in a professional way, but basically new management came in and changed the whole culture and they were like fukking nazis.
