Great playing.

I've said this before but the 22 fret JS1000/1200 is the perfect design. They also made a JS6/JS6000 hardtail and a JS2000 with a fixed Floyd (Mick Thomson from Slipknot used that bridge on his Ibanez).

Ergonomically the way it tapers to a thin body where your arm rests is genius (see below). Mine is first year of production with the Lo Pro Edge and came with a Dimarzio PAF Pro and a FRED which I replaced with lower output Dimarzios. The JS1200 came with a "PAF Joe" + FRED and an Edge Pro from 2004-2009 before Ibanez went back to the original Edge. The other thing that separated it from the JS1000 is the matching headstock.

Lo Pro Edge is the best bridge Gotoh ever made. I've got a trem stopper so the bridge can't float and use very heavy springs so it barely moves. It's not blocked so I could still use the trem if I wanted but it's not my thing. Some people know how to use it tastefully and exercise restraint but it's easy to aimlessly wank on it which gets old fast.

Opinions are like arseh0les. Yours is just another one, as is mine. That shape has been going for over 35 years so if it was crap they'd have a) changed it regardless of Joe's wishes, and b) it wouldn't have sold.

The beveled edges of the old 540 Radius design appeal to me. You can get sharp lines on any old cheap Superstrat beater. Nothing "Lambo" about it. That shape goes back to 1988. Joe only made minor changes to it.

540 Radius came out before Joe signed with Ibanez.

Up to a point for me. If it looks great but doesn't sound and feel right then it's a no from me dawg.

For example I love Strats when I see them (no sharp lines there) but if you gave me the chance to customize one then I'd probably end up with what I have. I'd want to scrap all the plastic, move the output jack and recess it, HH instead of noisy weak sauce SSS, ebony, roasted maple, fat neck, stainless frets... you know the drill. Then it's not a Strat anymore. For every person who agrees with me thousands more prefer the stock instrument. Who cares?

Back in the day, my teacher played an RG770 and I've alway wanted one.

Step on a pitch shifter.

I don't care for 24 frets. Shifts the neck pickup away from the 24th fret harmonic and it never sounds as good plus it looks weird to me. Satriani had Ibanez put a stacked humbucker right up against the 24th fret but all his best music was played on 22 frets. He played a Kramer Pacer on this album.

I love the sound of the Kramer Nightswan and the SM-1. Just sound so 80s and built for shred and crunch. There was an excellent guitar specialty store a few hundred kms north of me which employed the PLEK system to get you the best instrument for your money, and it closes down and rebirths as a mere guitar repair outlet. They were the only ones who stocked Kramers and Charvels within any reasonable distance.


I'm glad to see them making a comeback, they didn't deserve to go down with the ship after Kurt NoBrain ruined 80s metal. I would like to see them pushed more for modern metal too, to compete amongst the Schecter and ESP everywhere:

They were quite popular 10-15 years ago but the market is crowded these days. It's funny how people are always chasing the latest trends. The recipe for building a decent electric guitar is not complicated.

Kramer was big thanks to EVH but then Vai showed up at NAMM in 1987 with his signature Ibanez JEM and that changed everything. Ed switched to Ernie Ball Music Man and was close with Sterling Ball until a rumor he shagged his wife. Goodbye EBMM, hello Peavey. I heard Ed got the sh*ts with Peavey building Satriani a signature amp which triggered a move to start his own brand with Fender. Satriani nuked his Peavey deal by going on tour with Chickenfoot playing Marshall.

I agree about the logo but if you were born 10-15 years earlier I reckon there's a good chance that unless you had rich parents or some kind of side hustle you'd have turned to Peavey at a time of need especially if you played in a band with a drummer. American made, indestructible, and ridiculously loud.

My first amp was a 12W Peavey. Second amp was a teal stripe Peavey that pumped 160W into a 12" "SCORPION EQUIPPED" 4 ohms. I'd carry that thing on trains and buses to jam and probably laid the foundation for my strength because that was like a boat anchor. Could drown out any drummer on 1/4 power. A friend gave me a debadged "Studio Pro 60" that I played a lot.

Not nuthugging Peavey but just putting it in perspective.

Question time to anyone reading.What's the best guitar tone you've heard live?

For me it was Vai on the Fire Garden tour with the Bogner/Egnater rig. Video doesn't do it justice. Yeah I get it, everybody has good tone today with an Axe-FX but it was tough going back to my Peavey after experiencing that.

I have a mid-80's USA-made Peavey bass that I really like.

Active pickups, on board eq, oiled finish. I think I paid $300 10-ish years ago
