50% of car sales being EV within 3 years isn’t realistic purely from a manufacturing standpoint. There are a lot of battery factories under construction in the US right now, but finishing all of them and getting them ramped will likely take some time.

Without getting into who will buy the EVs

This 3 year talk was not an opinion, just following the curve,

as far as who will buy ev, the answer is everyone, just like everyone bought cars instead of horses, do you want noise, smell, and paying $10 per gallon every few days at a dirty old gas station? Do you like taking your car for oil change and paying hundredths of dollars for stupid things that break?

Good news for Mercedes and Lexus I guess

I’m not talking about ev

But I mean after so much distrust in the healthcare system, the death of democracy, flagrant sexual abuse of children and more, 16 trillion dollars was lost globally

And musk being like the gatekeeper to all of it

Trying to protect those who’d been directly responsible?

Therefore legally complicit he may as well have done it himself alone

This probably spells good news because it’s like?

Who wants to buy a car from a guy who’s doing this and then?

Have to pay the price of the car, plus however many billion s your company lost

Plus that 110,000$ each individual owes the irs

Plus? Not be able to trust your healthcare because of this clown and his fraternizing with pharmacy and dea felon s

Not sure what curve this is, I'm just thinking production capacity and factories under construction right now as this is the real-world indicator of where things are headed.

About 300,000 EVs are selling per quarter in the US right now, needs to be about 6x that to hit 50% of all vehicles assuming overall sales don't increase from the 14million or so sold in 2022. There are a chitton of battery factories etc planned or already under construction, but a lot of things need to go just right for production to ramp that steeply in three years and sales along with them.

Tesla is great if you are an handicaped commuter.

It has everything I wouldn't like in a car.

- No engine sound;
- No stickshift;
- No range/takes forever to charge;
- "Self-Driving" (inverted commas cuz its more bugged than Mia Khalifa's brain);
- You look like a "uhn fashion!" ****.

All EV prices will need to come down big time to hit these volume targets

Analysts have Tesla selling 2.3m vehicles next year globally, 500k more than this year, but there is no cheaper model on the near horizon so it feels safe to assume those prices will come down even further.

- Best selling car in the world.

- No one wants a Tesla

price drops are because tesla has the biggest margins and can afford to do that in order to kill competition. Similar to how Stop & Shop could open a hotdog stand next to yours with lower prices, to drive you out of business, they can afford to take that small temporary loss.

Carmakers already don't make money on new car sales, companies like Ford and GM and the Germans etc make their money by selling high-margin parts and servicing to their massive existing fleets.

This is the standard auto business model and is why it's so difficult to succeed as a new carmaker, because everyone else is selling their cars at cost forcing new companies to compete at that level but new companies lack the massive existing fleets legacy uses as their real cash cows -- Elon has talked about this many times, whether or not people want to listen.

Tesla is legit probably at the most risk here particularly if FSD/autonomy don't pan out. EVs are lower maintenance by nature, prices will continue coming down, and if Tesla moves from 16 days of inventory to the industry standard of 60-90 that would basically consume all the cash they are sitting on atm. That can't happen, revenue needs to continue coming in, and prices will need to decrease to move those units. While all this is happening, the legacy automakers still have their existing fleets to maintain and make money on.

Tesla model Y is the best selling car in the world,

maybe you’re looking at outdated info, or maybe you’re looking at auto makers rather than a car.

In either case the writing is on the wall, Tesla is murdering other car makers right now. The growth is too fast.

LoL, how much ranger do you need? Current EVs provide more than enough for your average commuter and ranges are only increasing. EV haters are so weird.

EV range is fine as long as you're not doing long-haul drives and road trips, towing, excessive winter driving, and you have access to charging inside a garage overnight.

Road-tripping with an EV is a lifestyle choice.

An EV makes a lot of sense as a city commuter, but not as a sole vehicle.

countries left and right are banning gasoline engines, mandating switch to electric, and auto makers are switching to electric only, for example, Volkswagen just announced they will not make any gas cars for Norway, Europe will follow soon, it’s happening, lots of tears from the smelly, noisy gasoline crowd ITT

I've taken lots of road trips in my Tesla, all over the US and been to Quebec too. The only "downside" is you gotta stop every 250 miles for about 30 minutes to charge. But to be honest I'd be stopping that much with a gas car too, especially if I had my girlfriend with me, she has a bladder the size of a thimble.

This, they are great for city dwellers. Anyone that is half a man can't make it with only a EV.

Oil is bad, but mining for lithium, cobalt, manganese, nickel, and graphite is really good. At least that's what the elite with private planes tell us.

I had to look hard but I did find a new F150 a couple years ago with that 5.0 Coyote engine. Loving me a V8 with a 36 gallon tank. No charging station on forest service roads that I have seen yet.

Misc logics:

- ev 500 mile range is not enough!!
- I love dodge viper and hammer h2!

- you can’t take road trip in Tesla across the country!
- 0.00001% of people take road trips. And 0.000% of the misc takes road trips.

- ev batteries are bad for environment
- fuk the environment libs!

- Tesla is overpriced!
- I love paying for oil changes, and $10 for a gallon of gas at smelly dirty gas stations.

The US and Canada together also produce a massive amount of oil, but we produce very little of any critical battery minerals -- China has a near monopoly on much of the stuff, China and North Korea together produce like 90% of the world's battery-grade graphite. So we can also consider the potential national security issues that could arise from these dynamics and making ourselves beholden to other countries and countries who may present further risks in the future.

If this is going to happen, we need to not be totally reliant on potentially-unfriendly actors and instead need to produce our own minerals domestically or in friendly countries. However there will be big hurdles to overcome, because there are environmental and regulatory reasons most of these things come from China. It takes a decade to plan, build, and commission mines or refining facilities in North America.

True costs of fueling an electric vehicle, including excess charging costs and subsidies, is equal to $17.33 per gallon of gasoline, a new analysis found.

The cost of charging is zero, obviously you would plug it in at home with a solar roof.

It’s dishonest also to include the subsidies, because you’re going to pay those regardless, whether you have a car or not, gas carmakers also got subsidies for many many decades.
