Alan Wake II delivers one of the boldest and most brain-bending survival-horror storylines this side of Silent Hill 2, presents it with uniformly immaculate art direction and audio design, and reinvigorates the series' signature light-based shooting as though it's been locked and loaded with a fresh pack of Energizers. Even though its skill-upgrade systems seem a little superfluous and there were a few repeated cliches in Saga's story that stuck in my craw, I nonetheless found both sides of this twisted tale to be endlessly fascinating, frequently fear-inducing, and consistently surprising. Alan Wake II is a superb survival-horror sequel that makes the cult-classic original seem like little more than a rough first draft by comparison.

There is nothing you'll play this year like Alan Wake 2. The choice of two protagonists works wonderfully, with an interwoven plot that is Remedy at their best. I love the twists and turns it takes, with an incredible atmosphere set that boosts everything it touches, including the combat. Alan Wake 2 is breathtaking both visually and audibly, whether in Bright Falls or The Dark Place. Our departure thirteen years ago is long forgotten; Alan Wake's return is a triumph.

OP, you haven't learned from your experience with Control? I know we felt the same about that one. I don't think I'd ever play another game by this dev again after that garbage. Buy on release? JLoL, hard no.
Although, I gotta say, the trailers do look good.

Lmao, this game was clearly made for Jay, it has everything that he hates about gaming. It is literally the poster boy for cinematic, 2deep4u experiences.
Bought it on PS5 .... Thots -
Graphics - This is definitely a looker on the PS5, it feels very next gen, the lighting is cottdamn. Easily one of the best looking PS5 games out there.
Presentation - Insane, this is probably the part that has impressed me the most. It is incredibly atmospheric and so much of the effects work is genuinely stunning in how they bring in the noir detective type elements into a weird and wacky world. It feels insanely foreboding and completely pulls you into the world and story. I'm completely immersed in this.
Gameplay - It's so far servicable, nothing really to praise or complain about here. It's very much an over the top shooter like Resident Evil 4 / Deadspace. However they do some incredibly cool stuff like with the Mind Palace where you piece together the mystery with detective work as the Black woman, it's kinda on rails, but it's pretty fun. I dont want to spoil Alan Wake's part, I'm not sure if reviewers or previewers mentioned it, but mind palace is legit fukkin insane and this is the type of next gen stuff that I want to see. I dont think it can be done on any older console. The SSD speed is such a game-changer and Remedy have made full use of it. There's so much happening in Alan Wake's mind palace that I just want to keep experiencing all the different stuff that can happen.
There's also upgrading of your skills / guns, so a lotta fun stuff to do. Quite a few puzzles, optional areas and things to collect. Nothing egregious because this is a linear game (with freedom) so everything seems zoned.
Story - Story is pretty damn good, it's gotten me engrossed and it's weird, wacky and I have semblance of what's going on, but it gets batchit crazier ... I guess this is Remedy's thing.
Gripes - The 30 fps does not feel the best coming in from Spiderman's VRR. There is a performance mode in here, but I haven't tried it out because I'd rather experience the game in its visual fidelity. I did notice some pretty noticeable drops here and there, but nothing too bad, although I know some people will find it annoying.
Overall, I'm having a ton of fun and the game pulled me in far more than Control ever did. If you love RE4, Deadspace, and TLOU ... Then you're absolutely gonna love the fukk out of this game. mgltp put this on your radar for 2030, because I'm sure you're gonna enjoy this.
No regrets buying this game ... The only regret I do have is buying on the PS5 lol, I kinda wish I bought it on the PC because I think my PC could do a better job at running it, but I really just wanted to be on the couch for this.
