I've never played ice hockey competitively but am pretty decent on skates and have certainly watched a lot of hockey. I have never seen anyone lift their leg up like that and can't imagine why they ever would unless they got hit hard enough to level them or flip them over. 100% looks like he kicked him to me.

Also, hitting someone with a baseball (most likely in the torso or leg) or blocking someone in the legs at the line of scrimmage isn't quite the same as kicking someone forcefully with a blade attached to your foot.

Ive been watching hockey a long time and unless you are body checked intensely, your leg does not just kick up like that naturally, think it was intentional, probably didnt wanna kill the guy or hit his neck but hes gotta do time for this, manslaughter or some chit.

Look at this example, this one the ended of one the players career but you can can clearly see why Crosbys leg goes flying the way it does. Big hipcheck from Methot sends his lower body flying upwards, almost necking his teammate
