Marriage and university (most).

I would argue that a degree is necessary for some jobs but even then, do it smart... do it cheap, unless your goal is some big company. Most of the time, you just need a piece of paper. University of the People can give you a degree for 1/5 of the price of what I paid for my BA and is accredited and recognized by the US or do county college before switching to a 4 year to save some cash. Don't dig yourself into debt. Also, don't follow your dreams or passions for a career... passions are better for hobbies...

That quitting is a bad thing. When actually persisting with something toxic and unfulfilling, believing that it can turn around and you’ll be vindicated, like a Hollywood story, is way worse.

I don't get all the comments about hard work. I'm older than most here and have always strived to be the standout in whatever position I was in. It's led to me becoming an executive and making the kind of cash even the misc would be impressed with. All you have to do is make yourself stand out and advocate for yourself. Most people are to chicken chit to go into the boss and lay out why they're worth more money.

In the past two years I created some great stuff for my company and have 2x gone into the CEO and asked for a comp increase. Both times I got a 10% bump and now make $70k more than I did two years ago. My annual bonus has gone up the same percentage.

Work hard youngsters, stand out, and advocate for yourself. If you're truly good you'll be rewarded.

Family is not a scam. You need family to bring up your children. Kids need papa and mama, and strong household.

College gives knowledge.

Hard working at work has nothing to do with employer or colleagues. It is your personal choice. Might be hard to grasp, but just imagine there are people who love their job. For everybody around them it might look like such person is working hard and suffering. While in reality that person is having fun.

Also, somebody mentioned materialism. Material things by themselves do not provide happiness. You need something else.

People who view marriage through a black and white lens, assessing it as solely a 'scam' with no redeemable nor positive qualities are either people who've unfortunately been wronged by a terrible person and closed that door entirely to protect themselves from future pain or lonely/bitter people who are eternalizing their pain and transforming it into total disdain.

Lots of people have mentioned marriage, but two components of that are also big scams - engagement rings and weddings. Society dictates that a piece of jewelry someone wears MUST be a certain price or you don't love your fiance. And don't get me started on weddings, which is the dumbest thing in the world. Paying tens of thousands of dollars for a PARTY you could easily hold for 1/10 of the price and involving people you don't care about just because it's what all your friends did.

Another big scam is you need experience to get the job, when 95% of jobs can be easily learned while doing them with proper supervision and training.

What are you talking about? Millenllias and zoomers were taught that there's nothing wrong with giving up at the first sign of trouble/difficulty/effort required of any sort, even giving up on their own families. That "never give up" stuff hasn't been pushed since the 1990's.

Thankfully have a high IQ and knew from a young age that college wasfucking pointless for anything except lawyer/pharma/etc. Knew that going into debt for a thousand other things just to get paid less than you owe was a scam and a half
