the million.

I would never be able to live with myself if I instead chose the damn coin and flipped on the wrong side.

Give me the million. I'd probably take a guaranteed clean $100k before gambling for $100 mil or nothing too, for that matter.

I’d rather put in the effort to make 100 million out of the 1 million, and understand the mechanisms and effort that it took, than just get 100 million and tune out of life.

yeah, but it typically takes people a lifetime to save up 1 million.

I'd take the million and then invest it. If the market averages 8% returns, that's an 80k year profit. Plenty to live off of on in rural Mantana or South Dakota. INB4 miscers say I need 1 billion to retire.

$1 million is nice, but I would rather have the 50/50 chance of the $100 million, instead of getting another million.
Nice subtle flex.

Lol.... so many dumb people in this thread.

I'm selling the rights to the coin flip in advance. Expected value of coin toss is 50 m.

Someone is going to pay me 1m < payment <50m

I'd take the million as it would round off my finances quite nicely and allow me to retire (if i want). I have a huge cawk, I don't need 100 million, I need more time to jack myself off.

If everybody thinks like you, entrepreneurship wouldn't exist.

1mil = maybe retire(at this rate, probably not), 100mil = generational wealth.

How greedy and stupid would one have to be to not take the Millon. Imagine what you could do for your family with that Millon. You could put it in the bank and not touch it and live a comfortable life just in the interest alone.

. Take the Millon, get a couple acres of land, build house, raise family, grow a garden.

But to each his own

I'd take the 1 million. Spend it on steroids and ground beef. Then blow my head off with a shotgun when it runs out.

Money has declining marginal utility

How steep that decline is depends on the individual

Factoring in this, it might still be worthwhile taking the guaranteed million if the flip was worth 3, 4 or 5 million. For some it might even be rational to take the mil over a flip for $10 million

But there’s no way someone’s utility function so steep that they would take a million over an expected value of $50m unless they’re literally retarded

Cope.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

I'd rather just get the guaranteed million, why not? 100 million would be great, but it would suck if you lost. That's a million you just lost lol.

No - being dead broke is the clearest illustration

To a millionaire, an extra ten bucks isn’t worth much

To a homeless bum like GMiscer, that’s 3 dicks he doesn’t need to suck to get his next meal

Hence we say, as individuals move up the income scale, the usefulness of each extra dollar reduces (declining marginal utility)

but who was Risk Tolerance. Your EV statistics are not applicable to a sample size of one.

The first million is the hardest. The question is pretty close to "Do you already have a million dollars?" with some risk tolerance factored in.
