There are more college students at App State than year round residents in Boone. It's a similar situation in Chapel Hill, where 1 in 2 people there is a college student and thus the local politics lean fringe Left. I know from personal experience Chapel Hill is lulzy. About 60% of the population is 18-mid 20s, another 30% are over age 50, almost no one in between that lives there. Some people 25-50 yrs old work there but they don't live there.

NC really isn't the south. It's been liberal for quite some time.

Virginia and NC turned in their south memberships a long time ago.

Here is who is left:
Georgia
Tennessee
South Carolina
West Virginia
Kentucky
Mississippi
Alabama
Louisiana


Florida and Texas are each a weird extension of the south. Both are big enough to independently thrive on their own.

Yes but more moderate. Prior to wokeism people always described it as 'earthy-crunchy' because it had a lot of hippies. In between Asheville and Boone though most of the population is very "don't tread on me." It's a popular vacation destination since it's not as hot as the rest of NC in the summer, it's quaint, and mountains in every direction. People sometimes go there just because it has a wild number of micro breweries for a small city (under 100,000 people). Plus Biltmore Estate is there, built by Cornelius Vanderbilt. It's a house that's a castle, a huge draw. And it doesn't hurt that they have a sizeable winery there. The politics in Asheville isn't as overt as the college towns.

There was a time, and it wasn't even that long ago, if you came out as gay, or a gender bender, especially trying to fool people, you would likely be killed. People felt it was their right to kill you. I don't think that is the right thing to do, but on the opposite side of the coin, you have the wokes who shove it in your face, mess with people's kids, even cause damage and try to do passive aggressive crap to people and if you do anything about it, it's a hate crime. At a minimum, cancel culture will come and try to ruin you financially and career wise.

You can't base it solely on voting. Atlanta is not the south but Georgia very much is. It's a weird dynamic but Atlanta f*cks the voting up obviously. Florida sometimes votes democrat too but I included them as an extension of the south.
