I make about 8k a month doing nothing. Plus free healthcare. I'm just working on passive income to help.

My GF will make about 40k a month on retirement. So we should do pretty well.

Pension and VA disability already in effect.

Aggressively contributing to 401K.

There could be a second retirement somewhere in my life if I get even more lucky, but all my bills are paid before I wake up so I don’t need it.

I am done. I literally don’t have to do anything ever again. My hypothetical children’s college is all paid for.

It's not a one trip you're out kinda thing, people spend years getting an area ready and it's always a threat to be found out by either the gov or someone else so you gotta go deep - like a 3-4 day trip from the nearest road by horseback deep

Counting down the days until I’m 65 and can collect social security. 38 more years to go

I also have a 401(k) with maybe $12k. I’ll probably be wage slaving for the rest of my life so that will grow.

Other than that I have no plan. My income is nowhere near high enough to actually save money for my future. If it was, I’d be putting cash aside to buy a home. That’s nowhere within reach. If I pulled like a $200k salary I’d do FIRE like Sword and get to enjoy my life while still relatively young.

I'm not sure I wanna retire, brah.

A lot of people think retirement is the dream, but what do you actually plan to do all day? Wouldn't boredom settle in very quickly?

I just can't see myself ever retiring. I might not be a slave to an employer at some point, but I'd always be writing, reading, travelling, speaking, involved in some sort of community relevant to my interests. How could you be content with doing nothing all day?

retirement is the time to enjoy the things you enjoy doing that work doesn't allow you to do.

Being young retirement might seem forever away, but it is important to think of it. I've been lucky in having good jobs with decent pensions and I find myself in a very good financial position now that I'm drawing on it.
I've had friends that were self employed and are now struggling quite a bit because they didn't think ahead and neglected to invest into a pension pot adequately.

I don’t understand people who say things like this. I could fill 10 lifetimes with the chit I want to do, see and learn, but cannot because money and work obligations have stolen my once in eternity time on earth.

Nobody should be “bored” in retirement unless they’re just rotting on a couch all day. The purpose of retirement is to stop working because you have to and instead enjoy the things that matter in life. I would spend valuable time with my loved ones, travel the world by land and sea, take up new hobbies such as learning new languages, making music, learn how to sculpt or paint, take up woodworking, learn how to cook awesome meals, take my workouts to the next level to get into the best shape of my life, play sports, go fishing, go to the gun range, write books, become an expert in anything I am interested in.

There are an infinite number of things to do. It would be fuking amazing. Not a single interest or goal of mine involves work, yet it’s what consumes my entire life. I’m so fkin sick of it.

Howdy Iron....

Wife and I are not rolling in buckaroos but we are comfortable and that's mainly because we relocated from the left coast.
Just like most, we worked all our life and contributed the max to our 401K's and we both have SS income.
We both have Medicare and I have VA also (no disability income, just health care)

I feel pretty fortunate we've lived this long so no complaints from this old fossil.

You need to have a 401k, pension, SS and you're own life savings. The key is to save as much as you can from as many resources as you can. If you're plan is to rely on only one source, it will not be enough. Also important to own your home paid off with no mortgage. This is what will pay for your nursing home or assisted living if you live long enough. Actually when I "retire", I'll still plan on working very part time doing something easy like grocery store bagger or Walmart greeter.

#1 - Investing in a Roth 401K aggressively
#2 - Maxing out Roth IRA with REITS like O that pay a monthly dividend, which in turn, grows and compounds monthly, tax free from now until i am ready to start taking distributions.
#3 - Maxing out HSA, which is double tax advantaged
#4 - Living completely debt free minus a small mortgage that will be paid off within 10 years
#5 - Investing in real estate/saving for real estate
#6 - Running/growing my own business

The key to a successful retirement plan is to max all tax advantaged vehicles as soon as possible. There is a reason the government limits contributions... they don't want rich people taking massive advantage, and the 9-5ers they KNOW barely take advantage of them because they're more worried about a new iphone or f150, not their future.

Let compounding work from you, ELIMINATE all consumer debt, and live reasonably within or even below your means if possible.

Pension (60% of highest two years salary) 457b, Roth IRA and SS. I am thinking it will be around 10K-12K a month. Not quite Misc 10k a day standards but it will allow me to live comfortably. Wife is 11 years younger and makes more than I do so she is my back up cash plan. I am 54 and plan to retire fully at 62 but might stretch till 65 if I feel good. Mom is 74 and still works full time as she can't sit still and good genetics, grandparents lived into the early 90's.

Yeah. My army retirement, even though 40% goes to ex wife, this is what I have left. Plus my kids get free college and I don't pay property taxes.

My GF is a dentist with 2 practices. They are selling to corporate within a year. 1 payout out immediately, another after 5 years, full payout after 10. the practice should return 10-12x this way.

I'm Federal, so there's a pension (not great, but money is money) + I save/invest aggressively as well. Assuming the economy doesn't completely implode I should be good.
