Surviving in an old farm house on whatever the govt allows you to keep....may be your best case scenario.

The question is this, which obviously very few want to think about...what happens when the only voters left like me represents ~45% of the electorate??

I'm in it

Disability ,pension ,4 ret accounts

I literally can't spend it all

I.play video games all day

It's good to have plans

But you have them when you're in the prime of your life

For most people, you'll have all you can do to stand up straight

You won't be traveling anywhere

I just threw away skis, tennis rackets ,bowling balls

Can't do any of it anymore

It sneaks up on you fast

Pension plus TSP contribution plus SS retirement supplement

Eligible for retirement at 50.. mandatory at 56

Will probably stay till 52-53 as that matches up with my kid and her age. The pension plus all those things makes it so I'd be essentially making the same amount as I do now (not quite 160k+ base probably not SUPER far off)

Plus we have another union contract negotiation coming up and hopefully we get a 5-10% increase which would keep up with inflation and only continue to put my high 3 up there

I read about it prior to retiring, but what your hobbies are prior to retirement will probably the same as when you do retire. If that's just watching TV or playing games, that's probably what you'll do. That's not to say you can't take up new hobbies, but it's certainly more difficult than just saying "I'm going to do this and stick to it."

Also, LOL at calling me one of the worst posters on the board for literally no reason whatsoever other than that I share different political opinions. Such tribalism.

Im legit asking the question looking for answers as well.

10 years ago, hey TXbuddy, guess what, in about a decade if you publicly come out hard on social media against children being able to change their gender/chemically castrate themselves, etc...theres a good chance you'll get written up to HR and possibly lose you job.

Your response, GTFOH with that BS...I cant imagine where we will be in 15 years?? Can you???

That said, you can be sure of one thing, when you/I no longer have the political power to protect our assets....they will be coming for them in some way, shape or from. We are just lying to ourselves to think otherwise.

In today's dollars, my pension when I turn 52 and can retire will be approximately 100k with full medical and a COLA. I will be leaving that day.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if politicians 20 years from now said "just kidding, we are taxing all the gains your roth made"

TSP, federal Pension, military pension (Medical retirement).

I started out as GS-13 and need 14 more years until federal retirement. I imagine my high 3 by then will be GS-15 but I'm trying to get into SEC, FDIC in the next few years as they have a much higher payscale and Data Scientists start at well above GS-15 there.

My wife is a veterinarian and started with a salary of $160k and she has no student loans from her med school. If I don't divorce her, we'll be set for life.
