it's in a rural area, and a pretty small starter home

the realtor and inspector were both family friends who offered their services for free - so the gifts were just presents I bought them as a thank you.

the 3% buyer agent fee would've been like $9,500, but all my realtor really had to do was send an offer letter and attend closing. so for less than 10 hours work, figured $2k was fair. he's also a multi millionaire landlord mogul so I'm sure he isn't pressed for money

Just got another 49" widescreen curved monitor to go with my other one. Too good of a deal to pass up.
Was discounted and with $100 coupon plus free ship. Came out to about $850 (first one was around $1100 a year ago). Will have basically 180* and 100" of screen real-estate for my crypto charting. I can fit about 4-5 charts on each screen so I can keep tabs. Need this for this bull run.

Are you running that one? Whats the advantage? Looks like that one is only 4k rez and twice as much $. I do like that one is a little taller....if I could have anything different it would be that mine is a couple inches taller.

Reps.

I love charting with just the one I have now....but twice as much will be sicko mode.

I think I was comparing mine to the Q9 or whatever the heck it was last year.....and this one performance wise was on par and much less $. This one is essentially 2 27" monitors in one.....you can do split screen and all that jazz

I didn't want 2 different monitors....so just stayed with this one and got another.

He was at a Christmas craft show this past weekend. He said the metal piece is part of a soda can he inlaid into the wood. I thought he said the wood was Bushbox , but I might have misheard that since I googled it and nothing came up.

On a Q Sugar Weasel - almost went with Eotech but saw the Vortex in person and it looked amazing, all the complaints I've heard in reviews seemed silly when I actually saw it.

Mirin 2k rounds, that's half my mortgage. Hopefully you didn't lose them all, or I'm misreading lol!

Nice....I like the Q offerings. Yea I don't think I'll need any more rds any time soon...price has went up to anywhere from 1.05 -1.25 per for the RC 77gr

yeah I've got the Odyssey Ark. I came from 1x 49" + 2x" 27" stacked but the odyssey is much better

for me the most annoying thing was bezels. no matter how close you got it, it was always an eye sore. plus with the odyssey you can use it as 4x 27" monitors, you can also functionally divide it into 2x 49" monitors. all the same real estate, but with more aesthetics.

I paid $3500 on launch day. I think they sell now for like $2500 retail.

EDIT: Amazon has the 55" for $1800 now. goddamn what a steal.

I've never heard of the AOC Agon. Just looking up specs now, the 49" Odyssey G9 has:

color calibration
1053.3m more display colors
anti-glare coating
240hz vs 120hz
PiP and PaP
Thunderbolt
Portrait Mode
10bit color
100R curve

so basically the only advantage of the AOC Agon is the price point. but if you're just looking at magic lines going up and down, you probably don't care about anything except screen real estate lol

Earrings for my 5 year old daughter. She lost one of hers that I got her 2 years ago, which she always had on. We looked for it for half of the day, and she cried about it for the other half of the day. So I ordered these. The “free” ones will be for regular wear, and the other ones will be for special occasions.

Edit: They arrived. The camera doesn’t catch the red glow that well, but they are really nice IRL and she’s very happy with them. A picture without any filtering:

Making some slight and gradual upgrades with my photo gear. Think I got some good deals vs Ebay by looking over domestic auction boards etc.

Just got this Nikon D850 for 1150 USD - recently serviced for 370 USD and new shutter put in.
Mainly getting it for the massive upgrade in the AF system vs the D810 I have.

Then grabbing this Sigma 500 F 4.5 (hopefully), which seems like a forgotten lens and after going through reviews etc, should be a decent upgrade to my Nikon 200-500 mm consumer grade lens which I can now sell. It used to be a 4K-6K USD lens some 10+ years ago and only found 2 of them on UK ebay for about 1200 -1500 USD. Getting this one for 573 USD on a domestic auction site so thinking I need to act right away. Put in a request to buy and just waiting for a response atm. 2/3 stops faster (66% more light) than what I have as well.

A few weeks ago I got 2 other "older" lenses for bargain prices. A legendary portrait lens, 180 mm f2.8., and a razor sharp 300 mm /F4. I've been amazed with the images coming out of these primes – not only the sharpness, but accurate and great colors (I barely need to do anything in post processing) , compared to my newer zooms. Researching older glass can really pay off. Got the 180 mm for 250 usd and the 300 mm for 550 usd – AF is accurate and fast enough for me.

Edit: Got the Sigma 500 mm bid approved and payed. Excited to test vs the Nikon 200-500 mm, before I resell one of them.

Nikon Master Race. What is your total budget for photography stuff?

Telephoto lenses mean wildlife probably, yeah?

I'm team Nikon but all in on mirrorless gear. the new Z mount has some absolutely insane offerings for wildlife lenses

I went down the rabbit hole of flashlights recently. Bought that new house and my dad was over and kept complaining it was too poorly lit. I will now have a flashlight and headlight within reach of every room!

Yup, been liking wildlife best so far but still kind of new so like to try a bit of evrything eventually. Liking close ups/portraits of larger animals/mammals. Been mostly at local parks and zoos so far, but would like to get out on proper trips eventually. Finland seem good for bears, Denmark has a good place for eagles, then if want to spend a lot ofc there's safaris and such. Found a spot an hour away for birding that I'm soon to try.

Let's see:

Sigma 35mm, 3rd party macro lens and macro accessories 1k
Nikon 16-35, 70-300, 200-500 2.2k
3 Cameras: D3400, D810, D850 2.3K
Filters and tc's 1K
Accessories (tri/monopods, gimbalhead, led lights, flash, monitor, raincovers and much more): 2K
Bags/Holsters 0.8K
Some Prints 0.5K
Outdoor warm and waterproof clothing, boots etc 1K
Shipping guestimate 1K
Custom/Import Taxes 1K
These 2 latest 180+300 mm 0.8k
+Stuff forgotten atm

Seems to total out about 15K, which is probably what you spend on a single lens.

Then Non Gear: Travels these past 2 years and 2 booked for next year with a photography focus: 10K

Hurts a bit looking at it, but then again if it turns out to a lifelong hobby and healthier lifestyle spending more time outdoors etc, then it should be more than worth it.

Did you switch over from Canon? Remember you showing those big white lenses?

I will stay with this boomer gear a bit longer before going mirrorless. I strongly considered Canon R7 for wildlife with it's great AF etc and 32 MP and a crop body, but it will have to wait.

$15k is a pretty solid budget! Although I don't know how much USD is different from Swedish Krona. I seem to remember you Swedes getting absolutely railed on PC components...

Any reason for 3 different bodies?

I think you could go with a Z8 with the new 180-600 and the 400 f4.5 for a total of around $7500 USD and it's a killer wildlife kit. Super light, great autofocus, etc.

Yep, I came from Canon. I liked the bodies (R5 + R7) more than Nikon, but the Nikon glass options are soooo much better.

You hit it on the head with "if it turns out to be a lifelong hobby". I have a ton of older (age 50 - 80) friends I've met through birding. It gives me an excuse to go out and walk every single day. Usually 1-2 miles minimum after work just looking for owls or bucks or whatever.

Trips are a blast too! I never liked traveling until I got into photography. Now I've been to Iceland 2x in the last 2 years, have Alaska, Norway, Sweden, and Africa trips planned in the next 3 years.

can confirm, mine came in yesterday and I am blown away. so much different from the big ole Mag Lite bludgeons my dad still uses.

I found my xmas gifts for people! on sale for $25/ea at Amazon and they are so small and pack a punch!

Upgrading from the D810 to D850, but think I will keep the D810 as backup. Especially now when leaning into primes, I don't think I want to switch lenses on the fly all the time but rather bring 2 cameras - one for the 500 mm and one for smaller lenses. I got the D3400 for 250 bucks just to test the 1.5x crop factor on the 200-500 mm. Camera has 24 mp as well but not liking the results, so I think I will give it to my nieces's daughter who is just 7 so she can try some photography as well.

I hear you about the lens selection of Nikon - there is just a flood of stuff out there to discover. Something like the Z8 as you mentioned would be great - probably need to sell most of what I have to afford a new start, but I am happy with this setup for now and maybe in a few years I switch.

Thinking about and and planning for new trips is so great. Luckily I have more bonus points left to use for another trip with SAS and still 11 months to decide on where to go. Got Vienna for June, and the Faroe Island for August booked already. Will get some practice in with landscapes on that second one.

Anyways, good luck and have fun with it.

Edit:

Just booked a short trip and a single hotel night for next weekend at Nordens Ark:
https://en.nordensark.se/animals/

For Positive Crew:

If you are in this part of the country next year you could visit this place. Used to be part of Norway and these were the private lands of of their 12th or 13th century king. Now it's this big park with a bunch of animals. This is made mostly with the animals in mind though, so unlike a zoo, you're not guaranteed to see anything really. Animals have a large area and it's up to them if want to show up or get closer and sometimes you get nothing. Stayed 2 nights 2 years ago and got some pics I was happy with. The snow leopards are always far away and I got some with a tc at 700 mm. The regular leopards you can usually get closer , and the siberian tigers are 50/50 if get close enough or show at all. No regular feeding scedules so hard to plan for anything really. I will just sit longer and wait them out this time.

Some of what I got last time:

Edit: Will try to keep things shorter in the future and apologize for any wall of text, but I'm a boomer so not an easy task.
