Something I’ve noticed about all bodybuilding documentaries

I’ve purchased at least a dozen bodybuilding documentaries from iTunes since 2020, and one thing they all have in common is someone who knows the subject of the documentary personally saying things along these lines:

He had more drive than anyone I’ve ever seen

He had more ambition

He was like an animal during his workouts

He trained longer and harder than anyone else

His work ethic was unparalleled

I’d like to watch a documentary where the guy started off like a slacker, and developed a work ethic over time. The Jason Genova documentary is the only one where they say the opposite, that he doesn’t have the work ethic or ambition.

What about someone who got into bodybuilding sporadically? He trained for a while, fell out of it, then jumped back in and progressed. I’ve never seen that happen in the videos I’ve watched.
Exercise will get you through times of ill health better than no exercise will get you through times of good health.

I know the history of all the top bodybuilders in the last 30 or 40 years. None of the top guys got there by lifting sporadically.
Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

I just mean sporadically until they developed a work ethic on par with the champions. It seems like all of these guys had an exceptional work ethic from birth; what about someone who ended up with an exceptional work ethic, but it took time to get to that point?

People rarely change for real
You have lots of very dedicated people at the top levels
Bodybuilding you do not see anyone like you say
You do have that in sport where you have gifted people that are just gifted enough that they can show up drunk/eat poorly/not practice and still win.

There was a Damon Wayons film like that, he was a boxer and ate ice cream and still won the fight. I think it was the great white hype.

Paul Dillett was apparently a lazy bastard.
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.

They had the technology to rebuild me. They made me better, stronger, faster......

Yup. You have to be obsessed to get to that level. The only one I can think of is flex wheeler. He had crazy genetics but was said to slack sometimes, but that's hard to believe. He still made it to the Olympia. Maybe he didn't train or diet as hard as Ronnie Coleman but dude was obviously talented.

I’m describing a situation similar to Rocky 3, where he didn’t want to train initially, then he gradually gained enough heart to tackle his workouts.
