The U.S. has largely recovered from the pandemic, but its housing crisis endures.
Americans are getting evicted from their homes at record rates. Landlords have filed more than 1 million evictions in the last year, according to the Eviction Lab at Princeton University, which tracks evictions in 10 states and 34 cities. In some cities, evictions jumped nearly 80% between 2021 and 2022. Meanwhile, the average U.S. rent has increased 18% over the past five years, according to Pew. Millions of Americans worried they'd never be in a financial position to buy a home; now, they're faced with the startling reality that they may not be able to rent one either.

but isn't that why its "expensive to be poor?"

People shouldn't be obligated to go to college just to not be "poor" and before anyone talks about the trades, there's only so many plumbers and electricians a town can sustain before the work becomes useless...and what about women? are they expected to be plumbers and digging ditches too?

something is clearly wrong when an entire town gets evicted. Thats not "normal" regardless of how poor the inhabitants are.

Since half the misc are landlords (in addition to engineering and investment banking), what would it cost to move one of those trailer homes?

Not sure exactly. I do work all over town and including trailer parks and have heard 10k. But idk if that's accurate. Probably depends on distance. Btw I am a landlord and invest crypto.

I work natural gas utility. I have to go into random houses after shutting gas off for maintenance work on meter sets. And then have to go into the houses after to relight pilots and make sure their gas appliances are safe and up to code... And most trailer parks should just be demolished. We had one that was terrible. It housed all the sex offenders and violent felons cause it was the only place in town that would rent to them. It was terrible. It did get dozed eventually and replaced with nicer trailers. I see some chit. Its unbelievable how many hoarder houses there are.

I feel for anyone who's in that position. Felt bad for the dog in the first vid, will probably end up dying at the pound soon. I get up and go to work every day so I won't be poor although I still kind of am.

A lot of people I feel for because inflation which was caused by Biden printing tons of money to pad the pockets of already wealthy people and then raising interest rates further hurting people's purchasing power and then rent goes up up up and they just can't make ends meet.

They didn't "evict an entire town".

What actually happened: Someone owned a plot of land that they rented out as mobile trailer home land lots. One day, the land owner decided to sell the land, and the new land owners decided that they weren't going to rent the land out to trailer homes.

Thus, those living in the homes either had to get them moved, or lose them. This situation wasn't even a rich vs. poor thing in the way that news story video on it tried framing it. It's just basic business and life.

I don't know about TX but I know some places, they grandfather in a lot of conditions. However, whe nthe ownership changes, the property needs to come up to code.

No doubt removing the trailer park will increase the land's value and the surrounding land.

Yeah in that shape they all fall apart on the road. But the cost to move a small mobile home is about 10k and the cost to set up the ground/fountain is about 20k. Hooking up utilities can be 30-100k more depending on various factors. Bulldozing then and filling a dumpster can be done for 2000 max

Not surprised if the new owner really couldn't bring it up to code. The old owners probably got away with a lot of code violations based on stuff that was grandfathered in from as early as the 1970's - 2000's, and that grandfathering privledged to skirt the rules is often voided by transfer of ownership.

If you ever took a good look at the condition of the utilities of most trailer parks... honestly, many of them that are older than like 20 - 30 years could be fit for demo.

Reality:

- the new landowner decided to change the purpose of the land
- the reasons for the change in purpose of the land are irrelevant
- thus, trailer lot renters had to get out
