Why do people feel the need to give completely useless, generic advice?

You're having a rough time in life? Here, let me give you some bullchit lines about how you need to learn to let go of the past, you need to focus on what it is you provide for other people in your life/what they need from you (but they never talk aboutyourneeds/wishes, only everyone except for you matters), think of how annoying it would be for people to deal with the loss of your paychecks, etc.
