in the summer make sure to get plenty of sunlight directly to skin regularly, 4000iu and 100MK7 daily

remember as you get older your ability to synthesize Vit D from sunlight reduces no matter where you live or what colour your skin is but for people with darker complexions especially in northern latitudes supplementation is even more important

over 80% of COVID deatsh were Vit D deficient

do a blood test if unsure a basic one can cost as little as £5

I used to take 5000ius daily. That would help me to reach a testing levels of around 50ng/ml.

Now I live in S. Florida and make it a point to get outside in the sun.

5k for me, on days that I don't get out in the sun.

I like to do a 20-40 minute walk at least a few days per week when the sun is out, for multiple reasons.

On the days I don't do that, I take 5k of D.

My levels were borderline-low (literally one point above the cutoff) before I started taking the 5k. For me, 20-40 minutes of sun 3-4 times per week wasn't enough (obviously not counting whatever other sun exposure I was getting from just doing daily activities).

Haven't been retested yet, but I'm fairly sure that as long as the brand I'm using isn't complete garbage I'm probably at least in a better spot than I was lol.

Back in the day I was taking I wanna say fish oil daily.

I stopped one day because for whatever reason I could feel swelling in my fingertips.

My fingertips weren't visibly swollen but I could definitely feel tightness in there.

Stopped taking it and swelling went away in a day or two.

No idea what the official medical name for it is, just happy the sensation went away.

There’s studies that show taking too much vitamin D increases risk of kidney stones. So don’t over do it.

5000IU because my doc tested me and said my levels were "not just bottom of the barrel, but laying on the ground outside the barrel"

The thing to remember is the vit D is fat soluble. If you take more than you need it gets stored in your fat, so it is possible to OD over time. Excess water soluble vitamins like C just get dumped in your urine and it's basically impossible to OD.

I think the study that showed bad effects from vit d supplements was some crazy high amount like 100,000 iu per day for months on end. Other studies showed pretty much zero negative effects for even taking tens of thousands per day, like 30-50 thousand iu.

I had a blood test that showed I was on the low end with 30-40 ng/ml (high end being 70-100 ng/ml) so I personally took anywhere from 10k to 25k iu per day for about 3-4 months, and then had another blood test. I went up to 70-80 ng/ml and everything was healthy. Another study on lifeguards showed that they hovered around the 100 ng/ml mark and had no negative effects. Just pop a multi a day so you get the complementary vitamins as well and everything will run smoothly.

Edit: here's the lifeguard bit from a study

"The upper limit of normal has also been questioned.4, 29, 30 The upper limit being 55 ng/ml seemed to be inadequate especially since lifeguards who are exposed to a lot of sunlight typically have reported levels of 100-125 ng/ml.4, 16, 29 There has never been a reported case of vitamin D intoxication from sun exposure, and lifeguards have not been reported to be vitamin D intoxicated. Based on the literature, it appears that vitamin D intoxication does not occur until blood levels are above 150-200 ng/ml.31, 32 Vitamin D intoxication is defined as a 25(OH)D > 150 ng/ml that is associated with hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria and often hyperphosphatemia."

I used to take 5K/day crew.

I recently got a blood test and I was at 125 nmol/L or 50 ng/mL. Which is right on the high end of the recommended healthy range.

I'm not sure how much is toxic but they typically recommend your levels be around 30-50 nmol/L. Nowadays I take 5K every other day. Everyone is different and lives in different climates with different exposure so 10K could just right for someone or a bit too much. I think Vitamin D toxicity is pretty hard to get, maybe if you were doing something insane like 50K IUs and sunbathing everyday. But a simple blood test will tell you.

For anyone claiming "too high"

Vitamin D will boost your T levels. Don't be afraid to take 10k+ per day as shown in this fantastic video i've shown.
What brand do you take? Also do you take K2 with it?
