So we're just going to accept that the earth is round because the government said so?

Can any of you explain why the world is round without sounding like a complete, utter dipchit?

-I don't walk around on a sphere. I don't walk on the fking walls.
-Have any of you ever flown around the world to know that there isn't an edge where you drop off? Hmm, we're just going to assume the world map is right and if we were to go on a straight line, we'd infinitely circle the earth. Spherical earth has been accepted as fact for thousands of years.

Also, there is the fact that gravity is spherically symmetrical, so flat earthers have to throw out all of Newtonian physics. Is there a single physicist anywhere who believes in flat earth? Srs question

Flat earth theory is a case of 'Don't be so open minded that your brains fall out'. Yes governments lie about a lot of things, but that doesn't mean the earth is flat.

To play devils advocate, have you ever seen any of the planets yourself through a telescope to observe how the surface changes as they rotate? Or have you just seen pictures, presumably supplied by NASA?

I saw a documentary once where a group of flat earthers were trying to prove the earth was flat. They shone a huge laser over the surface of a lake at a target on the other side. If earth was flat the laser would have hit the target, but it went a few feet high because of the curvature of the earth.

Euclidian geometry holds over short distances, over large ones it doesn't due to curvature. This also applies to cosmological scales due to the inherent curvature of space according to general relativity.

Now, on a serious note, I have seen curvature of the Earth, from the surface. It happened in Venezuela, on a nice beach with dead calm sea. There fore some kind of continental shelf oil field going from shore to over horizon, with pilings sticking from surface at same height and in neat rows and columns. THE LINE OF POSTS WAS CURVING before disappearing in horizon.

It was like seeing an act of God. Forget all the scientific proofs and shiit. There it was, huge ball, gently rolling under the sun.

Not having fun, just using common sense.

The earth is a sphere, why am I not able to walk on walls. Why don't I get dizzy since it's spinning. It doesn't make sense, no matter what fancy words, looney reasons they give, common sense tells you otherwise.
