yeah I see that but up to a certain point the formula worked so I do feel the hate was disproportional

you can't do a complete 360 every time when making a gaming series, you know what you're getting

I do agree they went overboard with the markers on the map and fetch quests though, don't get me wrong

but I have no issues with the general concept, I hope Far Cry 7 goes back to the Far Cry 3-4 days which were almost identical copies lol

One is a shyt model that they keep repeating over and over. Ubicock does the same

The other is a goat model with small improvements each time, so don't fix it if it ain't broken.


Also From delivers a finished game and releases huge-ass DLCs that are worth the price
UbiCock, Warner, Activision, EA deliver a half-assed game and ask you a quarter of the full price for a DLC shyt skin

Always gets me.

I mostly play sport games, platformers and metroidvanias though which have hardly progressed in decades.

I love seeing games that do break the mould usually get pretty high praise like Psychonauts, Outer Wilds, Sea of Thieves, Obra Dinn and Disco Elysium.
But it's also sad to see the regression from big studios into the "play it safe" type of development.

Tbh MW3's MP is actually the best we've had in years. It's too bad those old maps just don't work anymore with all thr sweats and kids trying to become pro streamers too afraid to hurt their K/D

Amazing that developers find a game formula that works and sells like crazy, so they duplicate it.

The movie industry and any successful author does the exact same thing.

I know man, I always get confused between Seikro and Elden Ring. Can barely distinguish between the two.


I think most gamers though have a series they love that doesnt evolve much between the main series games. For me that is Monster Hunter.

This would have been somewhat accurate criticism during the 360 days. Mainline Forza/Forza horizon/halo have been 3 out of the 15 first party releases from Xbox this gen. They haven’t even does a traditional gears yet, just tactics

Yes this gen even worse for Xbox with MS throwing billions of dollars at studios that only produce flops like Starflop and MW3

I get it from a business standpoint, but I've always admired devs/artists who are willing to go out of their safe zone in order to deliver something new.

Take CDPR for example. Witcher 1 was a massive success, so they made Witcher 2, but Witcher 2's gameplay, theme, and plot is so different from Witcher 1. Then they made Witcher 3 and it's also very different from Witcher 1 and 2.

They could have made Cyberpunk just another Witcher 3 - a 3rd person rpg in a cyberpunk world and profit but nah they chose to go out of their safe zone and make a completely new game with a different formula.
