There is a theory that man didn't get to the moon but robots did. An old episode of Coast to Coast AM from 11/27/2002 did a show about this and it's a pretty good listen plus Art Bell hosts so that makes it even better.

Not only that, but at the time, the Apollo missions were tracked globally. I have difficulty believing the Russians participated in the conspiracy that the USA were the first nation to step foot on the moon.

Because there was nothing new to discover that was worth the risk to human life. We have robots and probes. Staging a launch pad on the moon will be the next reason worth sending people. And probably a round trip orbital mission to test equipment first.

There's really no reason to...outside of using the moon as a launching point to other planets due to its lack of an atmosphere. And that's something in the distant future. For now, those funds can probably be better suited for other explorations.
