I used to think this way, it’s a very individualistic philosophy. I used to think I should always turn the other cheek, have perfect emotional control, and simply walk away even if someone randomly hit me.

The truth is that’s a very selfish perspective. Within a society, and as a service to my community, I should absolutely retaliate and hit that random person back. At a cost to myself, we can collectively deincentivize his behavior.

Imagine if everyone adopted the philosophy of “walk away and never retaliate if you can”. And no, the police won’t do **** for instances like that.
