I prefer overhead cable extensions with the rope, but each to their own.

Skullcrushers and close grip BP will build your triceps like no other

JM or close grip bench, cable rope, overhead extension are all my favorites. I used to do more skull crushers but elbow joints not a big fan anymore.

What is better ez bar skullcrushers or triceps bar skullcrushers. I had an ez bar but I gave it to a friend because his missus was interested in working out. Kinda thought I'd make do with tricep bar. Never tried skullcrushers with ez bar thought because I only used it for forearms and assumed the clues in the name when it came to the ceps bar. But lately I've noticed people using an ez bar even when the cep bar is available.

I somewhat agree, they are a great exercise and i very much love them.

However, the issue for me is i can't go very heavy on them so end up having to do sets of 15 or so. If i go heavy, it doesn't take long to develop elbow tendinitis

Use the one that doesnt piss of your wrist or elbows. Generally the neutral grip of a cepbar is healthier all around. Just the square shape might be a problem for rom. Never tried it for skulls so idk, but neutral grip for tricep is always gold.

Vary your grip - the position is not good for your elbows in full flexion under that type of load. Neutral to pronated to supinated.

Wait til you try body weight triceps extensions.

Will blow skull crushers out of the water.

Nah. If I go heavy, elbows hurt. Too light and it’s just pump work.

Pro tip on skull crushers. Don’t bring them to your skull. Bring them over and behind your head. It engages another tricep head going behind, also gives a bit of a stretch.

Yeh this. Skullcrushers hurt my elbow joints like no other. Weighted Dips on the other hand are goated.

EZ bar skullcrushers are the best triceps exercise, but they will destroy your elbows over time once you start doing a plate on each side or more.

Triceps extensions are really better off with higher reps and once in a while doing maybe 5x5. Can’t go balls to the wall on heavy triceps extensions session after session, even if you have deloads. Gotta let connective tissue strengthen up / catch up to strength of triceps.

Depends on your joints.

Cables might be better for some.

Could also do CGBP

EZ-Bar SkullCrusher crew checking in.

GOAT. I also love the shoulder stretch feeling afterwards.

Superset it with standing overhand EZ-Bar curls. Don't even have to switch the grip. Just stand-up and start curling. Arms feel amazing.
I'm not blessed with riches, but I am rich with blessings.
Thank you, LORD, my God.

Strictly for size--I still say nothing will beat a skullcrusher. I was doing 45's and 10's in my early-to-mid 30's and my triceps/arms absolutely blew up (~20"), but my elbows are f--ked now in my 40's. I stopped doing them 6-7 years ago. I am sure it isn't ONLY from the skullcrushers (been lifting heavy for 25+ years), but I do think they were the main cause. Oh well.

I'm sure they aren't nearly as bad for you if you keep the weight amounts smarter than I did.....

I agree extension will definitely add size. My current favorite besides body weight triceps extension is the JM Press.

But I’ve learned with any bending at the elbow (triceps/biceps), I have to be patient. Triceps and biceps (including chest and rows) easily out strengthens the connective tissues at the elbows. It’s the primary reason I switched from strict powerlifting into powerbuilding. Overall joints feel healthy this route.
