Taking my conceal carry class, shot guns when younger but now have my kids and honestly need to protect them at all costs in this world. So going to get a legal handgun

Glock 19 MOS, It's the most proven modern handgun in existence. All the other options have only been around for about a decade. There is a lot more holster options and magazines are abundant and cheap. Plus, you will never stop at just one handgun, you have time to collect more.

Statistically your kids are more likely to die from a bullet wound after you buy the gun than before.

Also I recommend whatever the local police are using since I hear it helps in your trial if you ever have to use it.

You don't want the legal troubles even if it was good shot if your primary directive is to be a father and provider for your kids if the problem can be solved with spraying and evading. You avoid potential legal fallout.

Personally I don't fuk with polymers. Get a Beretta or a CZ. You can get a Beretta M9/92 Compact. They have some others that are more compact or even subcompact if you want to go that route. Beretta is always top-notch in quality and reliability. CZ makes great guns, too. They have a compact variation off the 75 platform which is their flagship.

A few months ago I was in the market for a Sarsilmaz in 45. Decided against it, but Sar USA has a ton of great reviews on their whole line of all handguns I have seen. And yes they do have 9mms.

How much experience do you have with firearms? There are many designs, some simpler than others, and different sizes. I don’t normally recommend a revolver, but they are super easy and simple, and you can get one that is “hammerless” and double action only. The downside is that they are only 5 and 6 shot in most cases.

For autos, Smith and Wesson and Glock are excellent choices. Glock is the go-to for most, but S&W makes one of the best handguns on the market and is often overlooked. The Shield is the carry version, and holds 10 rounds in 9mm, which is great. What makes the shield an excellent carry gun is that it’s very slim, which makes it easier to conceal and less likely to print, or show through your clothing. They also make a “Easy” version that is easier to pull the slide. I have the Glock 43 for carry, and 19 for home defense, but man, I was really on the fence between Smith and Glock. Glocks don’t have safeties, but the S&W does, which could be a make or break deal, especially with children. Can’t go wrong with either of these firearms.

For revolvers, S&W or Ruger. Smith revolvers can get very expensive, but man, after messing around with a 686, no other revolver will feel as smooth and great in your hand. I bought a used one several years ago and is my backup for home defense. Also have a 629 .44 Mag that I carried as my back up for Bear hunting. I bought my wife a Ruger LCR in .38 for her home defense gun, but she knows how to shoot my Glock too. Has a laser grip. She shattered her wrist years ago and doesn’t have full strength, so pulling the slide is difficult for her. For that reason, I bought her the LCR. The S&W easy slide didn’t come out until after I bought her the LCR, otherwise, that would have probably been a better option for her.
