1. He is my family, and I do care about how they live.
2.I'm not trying to make him come off as a loser. He has a good job and landed a decent wife who cooks and cleans who gave him two kids, something that I don't have yet.
Not worried just observing how people take different paths in life. I think it's kind of silly raising a family in the same bedroom who grew up in as a kid, am I wrong for thinking that? It would be one thing if he had no other option, but this is literally his choice, which I find to be an interesting topic to discuss.

I don't judge people for this anymore, so long as they're working a real full time job. I live in a chithole because it's all I can afford. My debt is holding me back, but it is what it is. If you're a pleb there's no room for error

Doesn't sound like an ideal situation to me, but with that said I believe in other parts of the world that it is normal to have several generations living under the same roof. Italy comes to mind in Europe where that happens.

a few years ago, a 300k house at 3% for 30 years with 20% down (60k) is $1012 per month mortgage
that same house now cost 600k at 8% means with a 20% down payment (120k), is $3522 per month
those who bought houses more than a few years ago need to recheck the math to understand why people find it nearly impossible to afford a home these days

Also, if you're someone who supported the lock downs, mandates, and restrictions, then don't bitch about how things currently are.

but that's beside the point of my original post, which simply illustrates how doubling the price of a house and increasing rates from 3-8% can more than triple the monthly mortgage cost. a lot of people don't realize exactly how much more expensive it is to buy the same house now than it was several years ago

Buying in the south is pretty stupid now, real estate prices rose quite a bit but nobody wants to live in the south.
I could have a very nice place in Houston or Dallas but there's nothing to do there except go to strip malls and eat out at places. Nothing but families and too many blacks/illegals.

Whites are notorious for wanting to be alone and moving away, not being with family, viewing family as someone to despise and only see at holidays. Yet a large majority of other cultures have much smaller living spaces with large families, extended families, and are constantly together. Italians have their grandparents live with them. Mexicans do this as well and are very family oriented.

Where do you go where there's a decent paying job that would allow you to live comfortably? Most of the tech jobs are here and in Austin, and I don't want to move to Austin.

At a certain point you've got to get your **** together. When you live in your parents home you are not an actual adult in charge of your own life or house-hold. You are still the 'child' that has to abide by your parents rules/whims.
My girl and I are going to be picking up about 5 acres to build our next house on. When our parents start aging we'll build a couple of 600-800 square foot cottages on the property for them to live in. So we can take care of them but they don't actually live in our house so we have privacy and they have independence. As far as kids I'd say they can live in my house-hold until they get their **** together. And when they get married we can build them reasonable size houses on the property as well if they wish that. But no laziness or **** ups will be tolerated from children that I produce.
I can't even imagine going through life sponging off my parents and not being able to 'make it' on my own. The burden of success/performance has been on me my entire adult life. On one hand I think it must be nice to have parents that coddle you. On the other hand I'm thankful I learned at a young age I'd never be given anything.

You know how many domestics I go to, where someone in their 30s, is bitching to me how their mom is driving them nuts?

that will become more and more common. houses used to be 3x income now they are 12x income. unless you are clinically braindead, you couldnt seriously blame this on individual people.
if it wasn't for crypto $$ giving me the means to buy a 4 bedroom house cash with no mortgage id likely still be living in the family home and continuing to save and im nearly 30.
the entire system is beyond broken.
