The right answer for everyone here is no. Because if you were capable of doing it, you would’ve.

I use to go scuba diving with a group of people, one dude was an ex navy seal. He was a different cat from the rest of us.

Weekend after Thanksgiving, unseasonably cold. Dutch Springs PA. About 8 AM. It’s a flooded quarry about 125 ft deep. Stays cold all year. Surface is frozen. We have to break the ice to get in.

Everyone in the group is freezing their asses off. BEFORE we get in. Everyone is wearing double wetsuits or a dry suit. This dude is walking around barefoot on 3/4 inch crushed gravel, shorts and no shirt. Like he’s in the Florida Keys in July. He slept there the night before.

We are there all day, in between dives, we all huddle up in a large tent with heaters in them. My dry suit leaked and I’m wet. I’m staying so close to the heaters my sweat pants melted and I’m so cold I didn’t feel it happening.

We even did a night dive. Did a mention he’s only been wearing shorts? Yeah, he’s doing all his dives in those shorts too.

Here is the thing with scuba diving, even in warm water, it lowers your core body temperature. So each dive feels colder. Diving over multiple days, you’re colder still. I go home, get in my hot tub, set at 105 degrees. Goto sleep the the heat cranked, wearing thermals, sweat pants and sweat shirt. I think my core temp should be back to normal or high but come the next day, back at Dutch Springs, after the first dive of that day, I ‘m colder than the day before.

Most of the group didn’t come back for the second day of diving. The dude in the shorts did, but then again, he never left. He slept there again, in a trailer, and is still walking around barefoot with nothing but shorts on.

Them dudes are built different.

It is kind of paradoxical. A lot of people "think they could" that absolutely can't while others seem to think that it is this unachievable boundary that "mere mortals" can't achieve.

Pretty much everyone that wants to be a seal is on the level of Varsity HS athlete.

Of those roughly 17% make it through buds. You could assume about 35-40% MAY have made it through buds, but there is a durability and luck requirement that many don't have.

The other 60-65% don't have the mentality.

I think I could handle it mentally and physically, because I like going to the extremes. But idk if I’d want to be a SEAL or in the Navy in general.

I do like military-style training (boot camp was great), so hell week sounds semi fun. Srs.

Back when I was lifting? I’d usually do a mile/mile and a half on the treadmill and that would be it.

Treadmill running and track running are vastly different tho. I struggle on a track because of the nerve pain… but I seemed to do alright on the treadmill or gazelle because the impact is lessened.

I would do very well when young, but now I’m oldcell, so I would ring the bell and go home on the first day even though I’m in good health and good physical condition.

Recovery and durability are just not the same so it’s never a good idea to **** with your body like that after the age of 35 or so imho.

I imagine the Cold/Cold-Water Tolerance is greatly determined by GENETICS. Sure one can say "mental tuffness" all they want but it's just like BodyBulding/StrongMan and/or Sprinting.....to be a TOP one must possess the proper GENETICS
