RB, just got home and this room is as hot as balls so I've got a fan running with the backing track for a no frills phone recording. Always loved this song but never learned it so going by memory. This should give you a sense of the tone I've got cooking at bedroom volume.

Appreciate the feedback gentlemen. Not easy to play like Vai with 12s in standard. All those nuances in his playing come out with 9s. Still fun.

I've only played on digital drums (also Roland) a few times back in '98 when jamming with some old friends.
I think that is about the same time when Roland came out with it's mesh heads....which I tested at a local Guitar Center.

For me, they take some getting used to because thereboundhas a much different feel to adjust too.
I had to sell them back in 2002 because I wasn't in live bands anymore and they took up a lot of storage real estate.
Plus....when I bought the set back in '77 it came with (3) mtd. toms, (2) floors and (2) kick drums.
I never used the 2nd kick or 2nd floor tom at gigs for obvious reasons.

Being a music/geology major I did take Drums/Percussion classes to get the academics of rudiments down.
I still have my practice pad/sticks from my college days.
No, I haven't practiced in a loooong time because song writing and playing guitar became my creative priority.

Ha....holy shvt....you have to figure a way to get to sleep for the next two nights in anxious anticipation!

I've always uses match grip and so did my college professors but had no hate for trad grip.
I've watched the Krupa/Rich videos and I see it's application more so in the jazz & big band genres.

After you get out some initial pad pounding I have some unsolicited advice which you are free to ignore:
1) Don't be in a hurry. Good, relaxed, controled learning technique resides in the the wrists....not the elbows and forearms.
2) Learn the rudiments and play them slowly & deliberately.
3) Yes....get a drum pad for practicing said rudiments. This is the one I still have:https://rvb-img.reverb.com/image/upl...70wruyxlvn.jpg
I preferred the wood base because thereboundfelt better to me.
4) When hitting the pad think of it as you were swatting a fly on your leg....as soon as the stick meets the pad,anticipate that rebound and lift the stick. Focus on thoseliftmuscles on each stroke. The pad is portable and you can get good practice in anywhere without bothering anyone.

I'd guess Monday can't arrive quick enough.

For those who do their own setup work how do you guys setup your guitars? Like specifically in terms of neck relief, action height, pickup height, that kind of thing. I added another guitar to the stable and did a full setup myself but basically I adjusted it to Gibson factory spec.

Absolutely!

Our lead guitarist worked in a music store in '77 & '78.
I think it was a 1st order demo which he used for a couple years then I bought it '78 for 275$.

I register the kit online with Roland and keep that manual within arms reach and enjoy the assembly process. (with a libation of choice)

I just checked out what a Lezbaru WRX is.
Hmm....that could be a tight fit but I'll wish you luck for one trip to the store for pickup.

If you continue on your current path of interest an audio interface would be on the list in your future.
I don't know shvt about Macs or the ipad Pro so I can't offer any suggestion with any credibility.

Relief: 0.010
Action: 5/64
Pickup height: around 4-5/64 adjusted for toan

Relief is set to .012

Action is 5/64 on the bass side and 4/64 on the treble side

Living where I do I'm not interested in wanking the truss rod every week so I set up mine for humidity and when it's in air conditioning there's more relief. Medium to medium-high action.

I've been recording myself for 45 years and I still get anxious when I engage the "red light".
If it's a rhythm guitar track I can nail it in a few takes.
If it's a vocal track?....shvt....I may spend a few days just to get the lead vox to meet my personal expectations.
Then, time to tackle BGV....another few days.
