I got two dogs and couldn’t agree more. Love having them around, mostly for my daughter’s enjoyment. Avoid working breeds if you’re not committed to caring for them properly, honestly the best breed for myself are pugs. Love those little ugly ****ers.

The way you see dogs, is how I see children. Have a kid and you gotta plan your whole life around them.
Back to OP.
We have a low energy, small dog. A shih tzu. These fukkers were bred to be non working companions, who are high alert, and cunning. Since he’s small, we walk him about 1 mile at the park every 3 days (he gets exhausted because I make him jog and run with me for 1/4 of that), and we have a decent sized home with a fenced in backyard.
Also wfh life so he’s never alone for long stretches. We got him as apartmentcels and in case you didn’t know you shouldn’t be taking your puppy out to community spaces that other dogs use without having the proper vaccines. This usually happens around 3 months of age and that’s when they can administer rabies and others.
So to get around that we got him trained on puppy pads. As he got older he just liked his pads, and that’s what he uses now. We have hepa purfifiers (winnix) around his pad areas and the house, he runs up to us and lets us know when he did his business so we immediately go and bag up the pad.
But those who own big, high energy dogs and don’t have land I don’t understand. I agree that most dogs are under worked, under stimulated and ignored. Cats don’t do it for me, even though our dog is aloof and only comes up for the occasional cuddle.

1. Children are humans. They will eventually become adults. Dogs are dogs forever.
2. Your children share your DNA. You will naturally have similarities. You will have a vested interest in this child's development. It is your offspring that you wish to thrive.

Keep the litter box outside or in an area where it's not in the vicinity of where you live and the cat does his business. Dogs will literally pee and chit anywhere if they need to go ...... Cats will hold it in and let go once they get access to the litterbox and only go there, barring any medical issues which cause them to do it outside of the litter box.
Cats kill smaller animals/insects .... My kitty killed a little lizard that somehow entered our place (we dont insects/little animals coming into our apartment) .... Couldnt have been more proud of her lmao.
Buy a scratch post? .. My cat doesn't scratch anything except the scratch post.
Cats are just as intelligent as dogs, but they're independent and aren't constantly needy as dogs. I guess if you're a beta type of person who needs a stage 5 clinger constantly then cats aren't probably your thing.

Small dogs are a bit more manageable but even then they can be a hassle if you don't train them to potty. But theyre way better than cats once theyre trained.

Growing up I had outdoor dogs which was all fine and dandy, but lived with a girl for a while that had a couple of indoor dogs, of course I got relegated to taking them out at all hours for ****ting and exercise, plus they stunk up the apartment with their dog smell and chewed **** up on occasion.

I have 3 dogs 2, english bullies (10 yrs old) and a frenchie (little over 1 yr.) They are a ton of work, but a ton of fun. I have them on a very strict schedule...it's all routine with my dogs and if they're off their routine...they let you know. I work from home so I'm here 24/7. If I had to work outside the house I don't think I could own a dog. Might be my breed though. It's like they need constant human contact. My little frenchie dude never leaves my side.

Dogs are great. You can make some legit memories with them. They take good care of you if you take good care of them. They make you go on walks which is a pretty healthy thing to do on the reg. Nothing like getting out into nature some devils lettuce while out playing with a dog that loves you unconditionally. I get so many great ideas and clear thoughts on a good walk.
Dogs/walks can be a legit life hack if you pick a good breed.
Mine can go like 9 hours without having to pee. I don't really push it past that, but maybe she can do 12, idk. Which is another good thing.
I like being home tho, so if I'm out somewhere with people or they want me to work way later than I should, I legit gotta get home and it has its perks.

Dogs are the goat. Spent tens of thousands of hours (and dollars) with mine and wouldn't change a thing. I read dog books, get together with my dogmogging crew, and do cool dog stuff. Doesn't really feel like work, just how I roll.
