Damn Maynard predicted Clown World in 1996

Here in this hopeless ****ing hole we call L.A.
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away
Any ****ing time, any ****ing day
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay

Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your Prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car

**** retro anything
**** your tattoos
**** all you junkies and
**** your short memories

Yeah, **** smiley glad-hands
With hidden agendas
**** these dysfunctional
Insecure actresses

-------------------------------

I can see the background regarding comment about the latte as Starbucks came out in the early 1990s. I remember before they opened shops the only time you saw a latte was at a fancy restaurant with dessert. Then they made it mainstream so that people have lattes or other sugary drinks daily. To spend $200 a month on sugary coffee is just insane and is still with us 30 years later. We did and I still just brew coffee at home.

Prozac also came out in the early 1990s.

Glad you've finally found this song... almost 30 years late.
Was truly one of my all time favs.

Nothing they've done since even deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence.

I remember staying up all night, literally all night, for the chance to see their film clips on Rage (a music video program in Australia here at the time).

Yeah I was about to copy and paste that one lol.

This is on my playlist so it always appears first in my car. Hence I hear the lyrics and I think, "wow, he really could see the real world back then".

I loved that entire album. It's too bad at their recent concerts they haven't played as much music from Aenima.

Lol. When I get bored of my playlist or audio books while commuting I turn on an alternative radio station and they were playing Green Day tonight. Hence back to TOOL.......!

Then after school I got a job as a baker and they insisted on playing radio music, so I got Greenday and similar crapp at work all day...
Now it's even worse, because you cant even go outdoors to enjoy the open spaces because there's NPC's blasting their schytt NPC music on bluetooth speakers.

What do you do?
Are you just supposed to take your own bluetooth speaker and blast bands you like at all times by default?

Lol. Yeah it's really bad at the beach. You want to go there to relax and they have that or Mexican music playing.

There's really something more sinister going on I think.
Dont know about America, never been there, but in Australia the pressure to fit in is enormous. More so than America I'm sure.
There is a saying here that's been around for ages "fit in or **** off."
The radio and a lot of public blaring of music is just normie retards trying to push their BS onto others and elevate themselves as controllers on some level.

Well...to be honest, LA was always a schit hole. It was a schit hole back then, it's a schit hole now (srs). If you're going to California, just stay away from there. I spent time in Hollywood and Beverley Hill once (srs). The boardwalk on Venice is pleasant enough, the landscapes are beautiful and diverse, the weather is great, but the people are odd. That desert sun baking your brain in your skull across time...

was gonna say, if someone ever held Maynard to his lyrics from the song Aenema, I doubt he'd firmly stand by them.
All his Tool stuff since then has been vague, deliberately ambiguous 'spiritual' cope stuff.

True that when I saw him in concert he was in drag and painted as blue back in the 90s. Lmao.

I just hear this song and think of when clown world was starting.

Venice has turned into a chithole. I was there 10 years ago and it was great. Now it has tents and homeless people everywhere.

San Francisco is even worse.

But not all of Cali is like this. I don't walk over homeless people in my neighborhood or around my office--yet. They are starting to creep in, though, so that is very concerning after 25 years of never seeing a homeless person. There are trailers around 2 miles away from my neighborhood. I see tents by the overpasses now.

Then some dude asked me for money in our shopping area and I freaked as that's never happened in my neighborhood.

But yes, he's a weirdo.

People who talk about SF I'm guessing never go there. Yes it sucks by Union Station area / tenderloin / market Street. But don't go there. There is no reason to, all the stores are closed.

Up by Fisherman's wharf it's all mexican's selling hot dogs. Annoying but harmless.

Don't leave luggage and or Ipad's in plan sight in tourist areas and your car won't get broken into.

I go to Giants games often, will walk up to Fisherman's Wharf along the Embarcadero and it is harmless. Chinatown is great. The ocean on the west side is great.

You have a point. I go there often and Fisherman's Wharf doesn't have the homeless. I'm sure the police clear them out for the tourists. I have seen some tents near Oracle Park, though.

I do love San Francisco for Alcatrez, Fleet Week, SantaCon and other fun events.

I am just surprised that the financial district has homeless sleeping on the sidewalks. They weren't there a few years ago.

Maynard is about as based as you can get without being a full blown lib as a progressive person

I remember when he shot someone on his vineyard in AZ and put that dude in a BJJ hold at one of his concerts and everyone was calling him a prick for it

Nah son based af

I love tool and it’s what got me into spirituality when I was younger just finishing HS

The only other band even comparable musically is mastodon imo

Mastodon “ brb taking shrooms and tripping”

Tool “ brb opening my third eye and seeing beyond the universe”

This. Spent 25 yrs there and do not miss it one iota. It certainly has its plusses but the negatives overwhelm them by a large margin.
