Chappelle doesn't give a fuk. With his notoriety and wealth, dude can say whatever he wants with impunity.

Still have not watched his new special. Will eventually get around to it.

It was such a mediocre special and it felt like some of those jokes were in there specifically to try to recreate the viral outrage that brought massive attention to his last special.

Idk it felt transparent af to me. I thought the whole special was lazy af. Idk I guess I expect someone who everyone considers the "goat" to have better material than just blatantly making fun of handicap people for the first 20 min, then closing out with 20 minutes of Dave worshipping himself as a successful dreamer.

Gotta be honest with myself, I really do like Dave's stuff and I enjoy listening to his standups but I gotta admit I think he's a bit overrated. He's reached a level in his skill set and career where he might just pop into a comedy club while back home and have a sea of cameras waiting to capture it on tape. I think he's gotten to a point where he might not have carefully prepped a pile of material and a very tight special, but rather, just steps on stage with a mic and goes for it. It seems really flowing and verbose to me. That's probably my favorite thing about him, though. I like how he can basically just step out in front of people and just start talking and he's engrossing enough to want to stop and listen. For many comedians, that wouldn't be worthy of an overarching Netflix special.

Dave is hilarious but it's off-putting when he calls himself the "GOAT." Wouldn't be surprised if he's courting controversy on purpose, at this point. Why not? So easy to do that in 2024.

Who is gonna 'cancel' this guy? He already got 'cancelled' when the media called him a crackhead for whistle blowing R Kelly and refusing season 3 of his TV show, what, 25 years ago?

Crazy how Dave got run out of Hollywood back then and R Kelly went on raping for another few decades.

He was best for his skits which he has abandoned that show. He could always do a skit show on netflix. it doesnt even have to be called the same thing. His stand ups are just a lot of talking. Even at his prime his skit show is what did it not his stand ups which were lower tier.

He's absolutely aware of his notoriety, that's a for sure. The thing about Dave is that Dave himself is compelling. If his material were delivered exactly the same way by another comedian, I'm not sure people would take notice as much. It's just that it's coming from Dave Chappelle that drives his vehicle of success forward.

Skits were great cuz they visually represented these crazy premises being acted out in real life.

We don’t need the skits anymore, that’s just life now.

He gets $20 million for each stand up special he does on netflix. Perhaps he doesn't want to do another full show and put in all that effort and it's easier for him to do this

At this point, dude probably just impromptu steps on stage, has a bunch of people ready and waiting to record him and basically suck his dick, and he gets 20 mil to chat to people on a stage every so often.

Absolutely pissening arrangement.

He's absolutely one of the GOATs, but there's plenty of other comedians who are (or were) at that same elite level. Doug Stanhope, Bill Hicks, Dave Attell, George Carlin, Sam Kinison, Patrice O'Neal, Greg Giraldo, Norm MacDonald, Bill Burr, Andy Andrist, Sean Rouse, and so on.

I would put a good amount of comedians in an "elite" class. Especially now that so many comics are either crowd work hipsters (Matt Rife, Natalie Cuomo) or Joe Rogan runoffs that aren't that great (Tom Segura, Bert Kreischer, Schwaub).

Always thought his skits >>> his stand up. But this older chappelle is funnier on stage

He still has some really problematic views on BLM which tempers the media's reaction to his other jokes.
