Tombstone is my favorite movie so definitely that. Dances with wolves is a classic. A bunch of good ones have been mentioned.

But you absolutely, positively have to put Lonesome Dove on your list. While technically it's a "miniseries" and not a movie, it's a masterpiece and Robert Duvalls favorite project he's done in his career.

I would add Major Dundee to the list too. Maybe not exactly a western but pretty similar vibe. Charlton Heston, Richard Harris, James Coburn, set in the civil war.
