Dumbass should be suing the federal government for letting them in the country in the first place, and then not providing any federal aid on top of that.

NEW YORK -- In a stunning and unexpected move to stop Texas Gov. Greg Abbott from shipping busloads of asylum seekers to New York City, Mayor Eric Adams has filed a lawsuit against 17 charter bus companies used by the Lone Star State.

He wants the bus companies to reimburse the city for the hundreds of millions of dollars it's cost to shelter them.

Just call it the Empire State strikes back, with a bold counter punch to Abbott.

"New York City has and will always do our part to manage this humanitarian crisis, but we cannot bear the cost of reckless political ploys from the state of Texas, alone," Adams said.

The mayor sued the bus companies who, since the spring of 2022, have been used by Abbott to ship asylum seekers to New York, with officials showing them maps, giving them bar-coded bracelets with their destinations clearly marked, and then checked by drivers to make sure they land in the city.

The suit seeks $708 million to compensate the city for the cost of shelter, food and health care.

"These companies have violated state law by not paying the cost of caring for these migrants," Adams said.

The suit charges the companies with "bad faith" conduct and violating New York social service law by dumping the asylum seekers in New York City without providing a means of support.

"Gov. Abbott's continued use of migrants as political pawns is not only chaotic and inhumane, but makes clear he puts politics over people," Adams said.

The last straw for the mayor was apparently Abbott's decision to send buses to New Jersey train stations connecting to New York City to thwart an executive order limiting the days and and hours busloads of asylum seekers could arrive here.

Adams is also seeking to build a regional coalition to stop Abbott.

"I communicated with the governor of New Jersey last night. We also spoke with the governor of Connecticut. We've got to continue to reach out to our colleagues in the region," Adams said.

Adams and Abbott have been engaged in an intense game of Texas Hold 'Em poker over the asylum seeker crisis. It remains to be seen if the suit will force Abbott to throw in his chips.

Or how about the reality that they heavily strain resources. They're usually not exactly the healthiest people, often with diseases nearly eradicated in the US (tuberculosis for example) and they end up sucking up a huge amount of resources, so everyone else has to wait longer, which in itself causes more Americans to suffer needlessly or even die. An illegal that comes over with TB is going to end infecting people and/or end up in a hospital bed for 1-6 months. A bed that could have been available 4-40 times by others.

And yes, they do bring diseases like that with them. The third world is full of that. If you've ever been to an ER or even worse a children's ER the place is chock full of people who barely speak 10 words of English. You or your child end up waiting hours more than you should in pain. Take that reality and expand it, you have an idea of what's happening throughout the health system at large. And health care is just one aspect. All sorts of social services are strained, beyond capacity of what they can handle, as so many of the illegals have so many needs that we simply don't.

Look at NYC, the most wealthy city there is. They're buckling from illegals while not even having that many proportionate to the city's size. Their mayor is laughably now saying he's going to sue the bus companies for bringing the illegals. "Sanctuary city" my ass.

Adams should sue the Biden Administration for encouraging the illegals to come over. 99% are let into the country. I wish some mayors and governors with a semblance of some balls would raid worksites known to hire lots of illegals. That used to happen a bit a decade or two ago. Now - nope. Agendas.

why is that the problem of americans though? why should people in texas be responsible for accepting people around the world escaping from poor conditions in their country?

immigration should be a net positive to the host state/country and their citizens, how have these huge waves of migration helped texas and texans?

we have the same issue in canada, except our idiot govt is bringing them in legally. 1mill new migrants in 2023 for canada a country of less than 37mill citizens. its not my moral obligation to help out foreign citizens because their country is a ****hole.
