anyone miss gaming magazines?

I remember being hyped everytime a new one came out

going to the newspaper store to pick it up

reading it from beginning to end and share knowledge with friends

another thing the internet absolutely RUINED

I was 12. But yes. And WWF magazines growing up too. Remember buying those monthly pro wrestling magazines at the gas stations as a kid? Those were the days!

never been into wrestling brah, sorry lol

I was also still a kid back then but I feel that's a less important factor here, I still enjoy reading comics f.e.

main thing is (besides the existence of magazines as a whole lol) there is no incentive anymore to read it since we're bombarded with any little bit of news 24/7

by the time it's printed it's already general knowledge and outdated

to be fair I wouldn't mind less information being made public, this creates magic and excitement

I remember finding out about the Super Mario Bros 3 warp whistles because a buddy at the tennis club had read about it in some gaming magazine. I thought he was bullchitting at first.

Nope. I dont miss it all. I mean I enjoyed some magazines I bought and all that when I was 10 years old, but getting on the internet and having access to all the content from online sites was far better for me. The only "good" magazines are the games that have an artbook or something like that.

All the kids were into wrestling In Indiana, then fl it’s all we talked about on Monday mornings at school.

I had a huge comix book pullist into my 20’s like Xmas fnatic collected them.

My subscriptions growing up:

Forbes
Fortune
WWF Magazine
Metal edge
Nintendo power
Golf digest
The source
And comic books which I could average over 40 titles a month all superheroes.

damn strongly disagree with you here, I prefer "slow" resources like magazines, papers, snailmail, ... over the digital ones

no chit it's more outdated and not all-encompassing but it provides a sense of tranquility that I really miss nowadays

I also can't read ebooks or chit, needs to be an actual book

the value of a photograph has also been nullified by smartphones

etc. etc.

Used to play the ps1 demo disc at my dad's house so many times. Little bits of Spyro, Legacy of Cain, etc..

Know what we didn't miss out on though? Playing the best multiplayer games of that generation with 3 other people at once.

Crash Team racing was the GOAT with 4 on multitap.

I was subscribed to Nintendo Power for years. Was so much fun finding the new Nintendo news that way rather than online. Was just more exciting for some reason.

mgfgt is full of schit as usual, Nintendo Power went out of publication in 2012 if I remember correctly. I think they turned it into a podcast at some point, but I don't know if that chit is still running, but the magazine is long gone.

Loved gaming magazines. I would even read the walkthroughs for games on consoles I didn't own since I knew I wasn't going to get to play them.



Gaming magazines would be terrible in 2024, though. Would be something like Polygon or Kotaku, I imagine.
