as in living standards right now? probably America.

greatest empire?

probably the mongol empire since they conquered more of the known world than anyone else. closest competitor is probably britain since they had a huge empire as well. rome is incredibly impressive too but they were never able to get too far out of europe/west asia

greatest of all time?

probably some country with 5000+ years of history/mogging. chinas been mogging the world for millennia and were one of the greatest civilizations in every single millennia. They never peaked and fell off like Egypt, the Middle East (Persia, the Mesopotamia).

it's hard to pick a european country cause different european countries kept on doing different things and mogging at different times. italy mogged from probably 500 BC to 1500+ BC with the roman empire, byzantine empire, holy roman empire etc. Britain was mogged from 1400 to 1900. Spain/Portugal/France/England in the age of exploration were mogging at this time. Mongols were mogging at this moment.

Singapore. Lee Kuan Yew led that country away from communism, created their own currency, have their own military, made english the official language, and became the MOGGER nation of SE asia.... This all happened with a land mass smaller than NYC, and a population of only 5 million.

I don't see Singapore remaining independent now that Lee Kuan Yew is gone. He is the best world leader who ever lived, maybe of all time.

I'd say this for an actual BIG country^^

Even now Japan has an extremely safe/clean/organized culture.
Singapore is a hybrid system. He took what worked from each system. His son is very formidable and intelligent too.

I mean kind of. Many of Singapore's ideas are very unique. The methodology is very obvious from a self-motivation perspective, but for someone to actually harness the power of it's citizens the way he did is truly amazing.
