this comment shows you don't understand the reality of welfare.

there are 'single parents' with 8 kids getting $5000/per child/year and food stamps.

the system is broken. and i'ts meant for people like OP's gf with no income and dependent kids

The GOP has historically opposed these policies. That Democrats are also counterproductive on this doesn't change the veracity of my claim that there is something profoundly wrong with America.

We need to protect and promote socialist policies, such as these types of aid. They are necessary for a functional society. Lending support to political philosophy that espouses laissez-faire attitudes toward social welfare, disaster relief, healthcare, and food is counterproductive to your own interests as a common citizen. Again, it can happen to you.
This bill passed and yet OP still got wrecked by Maui fires. So tell me again how OP would be so much better off continuing to vote democrat when their "wild fire prevention" bill PASSED and yet OPs family still got wrecked by a wild fire? do their policies even work? lmfao

I understand perfectly how welfare works. I am sick of people making dogchit life choices and then crying for handouts. OP knocking a woman up and not marrying her so they can knab gov benefits is just one example of why the system is so broken. The entire system needs to be completely revamped to prevent the abuse of it.

There's no doubt the system is broken, but you can't blame me for trying to game the system. Our future here is uncertain, I'm trying to get as much as I can out of the system while I can. I've been put in a pretty chitty situation due to circumstances I had no control over.

That being said, the point of this thread has been completely derailed. There is no reason why a single mom w/ 2 kids earning $650 a week, $2600 a month shouldn't qualify for foodstamps in the most expensive state in America. Average 1 bedroom here is $2500 dollars leaving $100 left. How is anyone supposed to survive off of that? The system is broken and the people who should get help don't while the people who shouldn't get help do.

Lol her/is have never been on welfare or EBT in our lives, we make too much money. Losing job due to wildfire= unemployment & government handouts.

I know you’re a lying frauding loser, but you expect us to believe victims of wildfire get unemployment and nothing else?

Maybe she should’ve had kids with someone who wasn’t a loser more capable of providing for his children in a crisis.

nah dude. i 100% get it.

i know first hand how abused the system is.

people who need the help, don't get it.

people who work the system, get it.

at this point, i don't blame anyone trying to get a piece of the pie. You might as well get in on the squandering...

Depends... In my particular situation I didn't get anything because my apartment is up North of where the wildfire happened so in their eyes, I wasn't affected. That being said our work and ability to make money has been affected since it happened in August. Largely, the only people benefiting from the state, FEMA, or Redcross are people who lost homes, apartments, etc. I'm fortunate I was only unemployed for a month until my jobs called me back. That's why sometimes, you gotta fraud.

Just LMFAO @ you acting like you have any fking clue on what's going on.

They got placement in hotels for a few months and $700 from FEMA

they still got royally fuked all things considered. They wont be able to buy houses that are like a million bucks, the down payments are absurd with current interest rates. Assume someone who was a tax paying citizen in the area, lost their job and housing, they got fuked over pretty hard.

Only the people who lost homes/property got anything from FEMA. Anyone else indirectly affected got jack chit.

Now ask yourself who is going in and buying up that prime Hawaiin land now that the middle classers got ran out of town by those fires. Funny how we all forget those details so soon.
