Another car issue. So my sticker tag on my car is expired ( Sept 2023) but I have paid the registration on time. I wouldn't be able to pass the smog check due to the check engine light. Sadly my catalyst converter have to replace and repaired. The worse part is apparently my car have two . I drive a v6 lexus and the mileage on the car is 290 thousand . Is still runs good and everything is good except for the catalyst converter .


I live in a state where smog check is requires, Blah! I should have just kept my texas license plate.


I've heard that catalyst converter doesn't really impact how your car run the only thing that it do is cause bad air to come out of your exhaust. Also i've searched online in regarding to expired tags it state" if your car tags is more than 6 months expired and you get pulled over, your car will be towed"


A friend of mine whose a mechanic suggested that I disconnect the battery for 10 minutes then drive my car for 50 miles then take my car to smog check on that same day. The purpose of this is to beat the computer car system before the check engine light comes on again.

Has anyone experience this or advise?

This won't work. The computer has to go through a certain number of heating and cooling cycles to be 'ready.'

Get some cheap cats from amazon to pass the test. They are less than $50 for two of them.

Also disconnect the battery for 1hr and reattach it right before smog check, unless it’s totally fked the light MAY stay off long enough as long as the code isn’t a hard code

You can:
a) go to any auto parts store and ask them to check and then clear the codes, drive the car and see how long it takes for the light to come back on... then go BACK, clear the codes, and drive the car but bring it to be inspected before the light comes back on. it's a risk, but it is possible in some cases. The last 5 years I had like 10 miles or less on my car after clearing the code just to pass inspection, also an emissions/smog issue. what Chew said above, the sensors just need to be ready, and it doesn't take days worth of driving to do that.

b) just fix the damn thing. get the cheapest catalytic converters you can find like chewman said and have some crackhead weld them in. ezpz

Suck the mechanics cock and you won't even have to pay for the test after he passes you.

Buy a $10 code reader from Walmart and clear the codes when you park at the mechanic shop. It's a useless car part and a waste of money to repair. (Super Ded fkn Srs)
