I would expect them to add new original characters, and for all the usual characters to be included in the base game
I like playing eddy, why would I want to buy a game that's putting my favorite character behind a pay wall. I'm already paying 70 bucks.
To me this is the equivalent of a shooter locking guns behind dlc. I ain't gunna play a game where someone has better characters than me because they paid for them.
I'm sure when they release dlc characters they will be op as fuk too, so people who play online will have to buy them to keep up with the meta. Oldest trick in the book.
Anyways I'm absolutely just done buying anything that does this kinda stuff. All I can do is speak with my wallet on a personal level.

And you would be expecting wrong. Tekken is 30 years old, spanning around a dozen releases and has well over 100 characters. Expecting literally all of them to be in each iteration is retarded.I like playing eddy, why would I want to buy a game that's putting my favorite character behind a pay wall. Then play another character or don't buy the game. Most people who play the game main multiple characters because they know their character isn't guaranteed in the next release. That's just the nature of literally every fighting game. Street Fighter 6 released with just 20 characters. To me this is the equivalent of a shooter locking guns behind dlc. I ain't gunna play a game where someone has better characters than me because they paid for them.
Dumb analogy. There are no better characters in this game like there are better guns. You can win with literally any character. Also, just lol @ comparing a gun which is easy to add vs designing a whole new character with 100 unique moves. How long would Tekken 8 take to develop if they had to make a game with 150 characters?I'm sure when they release dlc characters they will be op as fuk too, so people who play online will have to buy them to keep up with the meta. Oldest trick in the book.
Not how fighting games work, you dumb as hell. Stick to your shooters man lol. A player recently won a major tournament tournament with Panda bear who is considered the lowest tier character. The skill ceiling for each character is way, way higher than any player can ever achieve. There will never be a DLC character that breaks the game so that everyone is forced to play it, unlike shooters.Anyways I'm absolutely just done buying anything that does this kinda stuff. What a clown, you were never gonna buy the game anyway. Every single fighting game has this same model, and you acting shocked and appalled by this shows you know nothing about the genre and would never be into it anyway. As I said before, shooters are all you know and you should stick to them.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

BTW s since you don't know anything about fighting games or the community or the culture... 8 on the break is a famous arcade in NJ where by pros would come for weekly tournaments since the train from NY let off right in front of the arcade.
Also to act like fighting games don't have tiers of characters.. Just lmao... One of the most common things is for pro players to make tier lists of characters. There are factually characters who are better than others in many if not all fighting games. I know exactly who you're talking about, yes he did win the panda, it was cool to see. But that's a rarity, and most pro players play the meta. There's always a few fighting game gods who play low tier, but it's not the normal thing.
I used to play fighting games with the misc fighting game crew every single day. I used to own multiple fight sticks for each platform. Never once seen you play a single fighting game with us. Never once saw you post in the fighting game mega thread either.
Maybe YOU should stick to single player lesbian dinosaur games because you genuinely are batting out of your league. My fighting game experience almost goes deeper than my fps experience since I actually went to 8 on the break and played in person against some of the best players in the country. What's your experience? Playing tekken against the ai? You never have stepped foot into an arcade to play a fighting game, imagine trying to tell me I don't know anything about the genre, lmao you picked the wrong one
Oh look, here's one of the best fighting game players in the world telling you what characters are better than others.

Tiers of characters in Tekken vary from person to person, there is no consensus, especially since so many changes are made in each iteration. Characters have so many moves in this game that if you're losing it's because you're worse than your opponent. You can choose for me who you think is the weakest character in the game and I will destroy you for the next decade. And you will continue to make excuses because even in shooters you think you lost because the other person has a better controller or a monitor with 8 more hz but the reality is he's just better than you.
Stay away from Tekken man, you don't have the patience or aptitude for it. All you can do is jump into a game and pewpew like a spastic, but having the patience to lab a character for 100+ hours and learn the intricacies is far beyond what you're capable of.
Not a single Tekken player out there is making the excuse that he lost because someone else is playing a better character. How pathetic, but I expect no less from an autistic shootercel

If you can't see the comparison between adding a gun in a shooter to adding a character in a fighter behind a pay wall then idk what to even say.
These are things that ruin the competitive integrity of a game. Doesn't matter what genre. Giving people access to a character (gun) that other people don't have access to, is anti competitive. Even more so if the new character (gun) is really good, or high on the tier list.
If you played competitive games with regular updates you'd know the dirtiest trick these games are doing now is releasing overpowered items into their games behind pay walls. It drives sales of the character/item/weapon, then once everyone buys it and complains, they nerf it. Oldest trick in the book.
You'd know this if you didn't spend the last few years alone in your room playing movie games about lesbians.

If you're serious enough to want to be at the highest level, you will need to pay for all the characters so you can practice most optimally against them. That's not alot of money for the next 8 years of entertainment. If you're not super serious about the game, you can still play at a very high level, all it takes is learning what the new characters do and learning how to counter them. Not only can you learn via playing against them online, but you can look up videos of how they play.
What you absolutely do not need is to get the latest super OP character to be able to win games with. I know that's how you farm wins in your shooters but Tekken is far more complex than that.
I know it might be a little bruise to your ego but it's fine. You're great with sound systems, PC stuff, shooters etc. You aren't the best at everything, and that's okay. So maybe leave this one thread on this one game to the people who know more than you and are actually going to be playing it. Thanks.

The point is that I don't want to play games that give advantages based on how much you're willing to spend. So to say that's how I farm wins in shooters is impossible, none of the shooters I play have content locked behind pay walls and they are free games on top of it. Everyone is on an even playing field, that's the entire point. That's the reason I play apex legends and the finals instead of call of duty. I don't **** with pay to win microtransaction games.
I understand all fighting games have dlc characters now, and I don't agree with it. Pretty much that simple. That's partially why I don't play fighting games anymore

Go cry elsewhere and let people enjoy they game, for fuks sake. You don't need to be a pompous azzhole and treat every game like it's a sweaty shooter. Fighting games are different, if you're at the top echelon you're buying the character anyway which puts you at equal footing with everyone else in your group.

Coal Man frothing because he thinks playing old tekken games story mode gives him fighting game knowledge, meanwhile he's never stepped into an arcade in to play on the sticks on his life.

How much better than Tekken 7 is it? Are the graphics way better with unreal 5?

Played a few hours today, game is top notch. Online matchmaking has issues I guess, not getting matches for long periods.
Heat system seems it will take getting used to. Graphics are better but tbh in online matches you dont have time to appreciate the graphics. Some new systems and sme change sin how juggles make the opponent land. A lot of the combos/ juggles from T7 are intact though.

You'd know this if you didn't spend the last few years alone in your room playing movie games about lesbians.

How much better than Tekken 7 is it? Are the graphics way better with unreal 5?

I played a little bit of story mode and it definitely has my interest so far. There's a second mini story mode for each character too where you win 5 matches and get an ending CGI movie.

Sounds like a nightmare, and this dude said it's just like adding a gun, fkn LOL.A fighter takes significantly more work than a DLC gun man. This is like comparing a full Witcher 3 expansion to a free quest or two. The fighters are the entire point in a fighting game, and Tekken fighters have tons more depth than Marvel vs Capcom.
I'd expect each new character to take months to add.

I'm comparing the effect they have on gameplay
Not sure if srs....

We can agree to disagree on what's harder to balance, I don't really care about that
I used a general comparison of adding things into a game that change the dynamic of the gameplay. Locking guns, characters, abilities, items... Take your pick...they are all interchangeable here... All of that is bullchit that should not be behind pay walls. Anything that can effect the balance of a game or the competitive nature of it, should be free to everyone, so everyone has an even playing field.
You somehow took the gun thing and ran with it for some reason, it was just an example that came to mind... I don't care what's harder to balance or takes more work to create and put in a game, that's not at all what I'm talking about. I never mentioned that aspect of it so idk why you think that.
You are just defending predatory practices because you happen to like this game/franchise. "100 dollars is well worth it for all this gameplay" is just you being cucked and contributing to why console gaming and aaa gaming has become complete aids.

The reason being that you brought it up, dipchit. We have two people who know what they're talking about telling you that you're being a retard and your ego doesn't allow you to back down.
I'll say it again, a fighting game is not the same as a shooter. Most people choose a main and a secondary and stick with those in Tekken. The introduction of a new character doesn't break the game as very few people will pick that new character, and they will get absolutely dumpstered because it takes a long fuking time to learn a character well enough to get competitive. Even if you choose to not buy the character, that gives you more than enough time to learn what they do and how to counter them with your character.
It's not the same as introducing a new OP gun where anyone and everyone can pick up on day 1 and be at the top level. That's why we draw a hard distinction between a gun and a new character, something your pigeon brain can't seem to get.

A fighter is someone with a whole new move set based off completely different fighting style, and anyone who's played Tekken knows that any given character has insane variation in movesets to adapt to all manner of scenarios. It's the entire game you're designing. It's more comparable to a shooting game if the new gun changed everything else about the game like movement, map layout/verticality, melees, (etc...; and that's just basic chit like COD; the comparison falls even more flat for something like Battlefield or Siege). The shooting isn't really the entire game in a shooter, and one gun wont change things significantly.
The fighter IS the entire game in a given fighting game. It's more comparable to an expansion.
Just because you want to ignore the work that goes into any given fighter, doesn't really invalidate it. Both the effect on gameplay and the work cost justify expansion packs of characters. I know getting Eddie back would be a huge game changer for me, since he's my number 1 main (and thank **** he comes in the spring; fallback to dragunov until then, and maybe try Victor).
That said, I'm always up for free chit, and I don't really like arguing on behalf of chitty corporations. Whether or not it's justified doesn't really matter, and if you want to take a stance against it I'll even support it. More power to you man.

If anything you are just proving the point I am actually making on the subject I'm actually talking about... Impactful things like guns and fighters shouldt be behind pay walls lmao. i don't give a chit which is more Impactful or harder for devs to balance, I never said shooters were harder or took more work. Show me where I said that?
Once again, at no point was I arguing which is more Impactful, harder to create, or needs more balancing or anything like that. My entire point is that they shouldn't be behind a pay wall because someone who pays for the characters has access to things you don't, and that is bad for the competitive integrity of a video game.
Idk how much simpler I can explain it to you

But both are things that have significant impact on the game, and shouldn't be behind paywalls. Putting those types of things behind paywalls is bad for competitive integrity.
How you can you honestly disagree with that? It's a pretty unanimous verdict in the competitive gaming world... Everyone should have access to the same things (guns, characters, abilities... Again take your pick it's all similar to it's respective genre).
You played Dota 2, it's highly competitive. Do they charge for characters or does everyone have access to the same characters?
