I don’t understand how Uber operates at a loss

So they have a small team of people working at the company they have to pay salaries to and some development costs for the software. They also have to pay for advertising (but at this point how much could they possibly need to spend, everyone knows Uber). With this being said the drivers incur all the operating costs of the service being provided and they’re all contractors so they’re not being paid benefits. How is Uber operating a loss year after year. It makes me wonder if it’s shady accounting making it look like a loss to defraud investors. Which I imagine a ton of companies do since there’s probably no way to stop them. If that isn’t the case make it make sense.

A ride is let’s say 70 bucks and Uber takes like 30 of it to do nothing but ping a driver and host a sever. That seems like it should be plenty of margin when you consider their volume.

It doesn't. Uber is profitable. They have been a public company since like 2018.

What do you mean? You want to know how companies stay in business while operating at a loss?
It's called investors. They take on huge risk by funding the debt but the business typically has to have a proven business model or a profitability plan.

Don't know if you remember but uber was giving out coupons like candy on Halloween (pre 2012)

All those coupons for 10 bucks off or 20 bucks off add up and they come out of investors pockets

there are plenty of googleable articles. a lot has to do with debt & acquisitions...and like that DD video in the other thread...in order to get orders customers driven they have to keep upping their end of the rake. Some customers they absolutely lose money.

only way they could actually make money is to severly limit the ranges and zones and customers they serve. (pretty sure they already thought of this though).

5 billion revenue minus 6 billion in expenses equals negative 1 billion in profit. It's not exactly rocket science unless I'm missing something.

What I’m saying is I think there’s some cooked book expenditures going on. I wonder how they do it.

The government fudges numbers to tell the public all the time. Most people are retarded enough to take it at face value. Similar concept, but a bit more work put is put into them evading the tax man than the tax man has to put into convincing the taxpayers that their government isn't constantly filling them full of bullshiiit.
