I like it nice and simple like that, but if you feel like it's missing something, then address the left corner of the room. Either hang another piece of artwork on staircase wall, or maybe a bookshelf or small credenza in front of the wall, or even a firewood rack next to the fireplace.

Rug is fine. As noted above it’s the fireplace/left corner that feels empty or something. Like you never thought of it. I also think the stand lamp isn’t right there.

The chair reminded me just now. You're missing an awkward zoomer and "free shag." Uncomfortable placement of TV would be necessary as well.

You may have spent non-college money on it, but that's the type of crap people give to their kids in college to get rid of.

This is strictly a formal living room that's near entrance (for guests etc)

Don't need a TV in every room

Was expecting a hell of a lot worse from a miscer srs.

The important thing is to figure out what style you're going for first and then look at what those people are doing.

Art deco, mid-century modern, Bohemian, Contemporary, etc etc.

Looks like the style you currently have is something like "traditional".
Your throw pillows shouldn't be the same color as your couch.

The space looks bland, because you need more accents.

Exactly the look I'm going for srs

My dream decor is the apartments and homes in house of cards (Frank's townhome before he was president, Doug stampers apartment, that republican pres candidates home in season 5

issue is that they had pros designing those rooms. all the little details are too hard to do on my own (also not as rich as he was)

i loved his classy kitchen too

Ok, I figured that was probably the case. I have another A+ idea then.

Get rid of absolutely everything currently in this room and replace it with a pool table.

I might put bookshelves to the right of the staircase. And fill it with books. Or...you may consider a tv on that wall (can pull away from the wall at an angle) ... we have a room like that and we put a tv in there in addition to the tv in our family room. Two rooms w/tvs, especially if you have kids, is a great option.
